silverstone classic timetables

..does anyone have a proper timetable for silverstone classic?

i am trying to decide whather to go for sat and sun or just one day.

the ticket prices are beginning to take the mickey i think so I don;t just want to blidly go along to both days..

..if there's a U2TC race on saturday then i am not going on the sunday!..

I'm ok - i found out last night that i have won a weekend ticket for the event courtesy of Haymarket Publishing so a big thank you to them!!

A nice unexpected birthday present for my 6 year old who watched the GP on Sunday & then asked when he could go to Silverstone as he wanted to see racing cars.

Little does he know that he will shortly be watching Group C cars racing at dusk on a saturday night....

Takes me back to 1988 at a certain French race track.

Is that confirmed?I can't see any reference to that race being late in the day, but if that is going to happen, I'd happily pay the ticket price for that alone!

you used to be able to download entry lists if you registered as media on the BRDC website. saves £10 on a programme if you can live without shiny pictures of cars and a lot of adverts.

PS I wonder where the best place to watch the final Gp C race will be - Luffield? Club/Vale? Any suggestions?

it's annoying because there are enough things on both days to see (what a coincidence! )

i can;t decide whather to go on my own for the saturday or go on own on the sat and drag her indoors on the sunday as well..

i have been both days for the last few years and went to all 3 one of last 3 years...

but well.. whilst it's good it's just getting a little dear i think given that you can say the vast majority of the entries at an HSCC meet... that costs a tenner...!

saturday all day inc dusk grp C is a great opportunity though.

In my opinion the best place to enjoy watching a Group C car around Silverstone is standing on the outfield as they turn left into Becketts. The likes of Buncombe, Law and Meyrick will traverse the left flat in top before changing down a gear and mullering the kerbs for the next right. Meyrick in particular should be absolutely spectacular through there in the Spice SE89 - his fastest race lap at Brands a couple of weeks ago was a full 5 seconds quicker than the Historic F1 boys managed. However to enjoy the full splendour of the dusk setting, Club/Vale might be interesting as you can see/hear the cars for some distance and you have the pit garages as a backdrop.

maybe... but they're going to use the 'historic' club aren;t they(?) so without the 'modern' GP tight left i am not sure it'll be as good as it might have been.. i was wondering about the Loop especially if they finally let us in to the stands..

another downside to the classic compared to a nice geeky club wknd is not being able to get the car in.. it's be good to see maggotts becketts club and the loop... but given the length of the race it's perfectly doable on foot i guess...

Yes, they tend to use the shallower Club corner for the Classic. I find most cars look fairly clumsy through there in its conventional form anyway. The other place I think is particularly evocative for Group C is the bottom of the Hangar Straight as they pitch into Stowe. I can clearly remember Peter Sowerby a couple of years ago in the Nissan R90CK audibly and visibly still accelerating hard before braking into Stowe at something in the region of 190mph. Magic. The view there is great as you can really see the ground effect working as they crest the little brow towards the apex, and you get the full effect of 800bhp thundering towards you. The Sauber-Mercedes C11s will look outragesously quick there! If it's a 90 minute race you can easily span several different locations over the duration anyway.

If you're a car club member you can park your car on the infield. My little sh*tbox is going to be on the Lotus Drivers' Club stand for the weekend.

Thanks for your post! I think I know the spot at Becketts you are referring to, often stand somewhere near there for GT1/1000km. There won't be enough time to get down to Club/Vale during the race so doing both seems out of the question. Might visit Becketts for the GP Masters race and enjoy the dusk down at Vale.

..yeah you will (on saturday) as chevron says it's a 90 minute race. you can easy walk around 'the buckinghamshire side' in that time.

plus as these races 'calm down' a little in the middle it's quite cool to get a different perspective so waling along the Hangar straight with them accelerating past will be mega. for quick cars i often haver around for a bit near the marshalls post just past the infield bridge (by porsche centre) as it's one place where you're closeish and they're going quick at silverstone..

chevron - britcar (i think it was) lotus elise support race earlier this year... you should have been at the new Club for that race - some really auacious (but well judged) moves into there..
