Helmet Specs

[King Fisher]

Ok guys, Nick's bought himself a Snell2005 approved full face helmet, with Hans Posts, from a company called Black Cats Helmets. The helmet carries a label with 'FIA 8858-2002' on it. Is this ok for use on circuits, aswell as hill climbs and sprints? Or does he need Snell2010 with FIA 8858-2010?

Surely the rules for the competition/series will quote specs of helmets that are acceptable?

Most competitions will have a minimum specification for both your car/bike and the driving/riding gear so look up the entry form or website for these. Don't turn up to an event without checking this as they will absolutely not let you through scrutineering.

As long as it has a Snell 2005 label inside then it's fine for circuits

Cheers chaps, the problem with checking the regs is that Nick may be competing in everything from sprints, up to full circuit races (depending how his career and job seeking goes once he leaves his motorsport course), so he needs something that will be suitable for it all for a good few years to come.

a bit more googling suggests snell 2005 is ok till around 2018... by which time you would probably replace it anyway..
