F1 - More Critism F1 Live Apps

my 25 year obsession for F1 is slowly coming to an end. After being to 3 GPs this year and hopefully 2 more to go. It may be the last year that i will watch F1 as a dedicated Fan.
The move to sky, the blatent drive to make money is now taking the piss.
I have just downloaded the RWC2011 App for the Ipad which was free, and the level of content avaliable at no charge, puts the £20 F1 App into perpective. It shows the amount of effort Bernie and his team will go to, so to extract as much money from the fans as possible.
The coverage of all games I believe will be on ITV (with adverts). But you still get to watch the each half advert free.
Bernie needs to wake up and smell the coffee, and see that people are switching off from F1.

The Formula1.com 2011 app is free for both iOS and Android. It provides live timing, text news and race info etc. Its publisher is Formula1.com.
The paid app which you refer to is the "premium" choice, for people who want to pay the extra. It includes all you get in the free apps, plus the loads of extra features (I've not bought the app so I can't tell you if it's any good, as £20 per season is too much for me too!). Its publisher is not Formula 1, as far as I can tell, it's a licensed app with extra info.

Eric very true I can liv ewithout the Apps/laptop and news feeds. 25years ago it was easy to avoid the news reports and results. Its not that easy to avoid the results now due to the rate that we now consume the content. 24hr sports news, live updates on websites, basic txt messages from friends. Other sports are now coming across as being more Fan friendly, where as F1 is now becoming an elite sport that can only be enjoyed by the wealthy

As I said, 1986 all over again - expect in those days the only way to see ALL the races live would have been to actually attend all the races.
We've had it very good for quite a few years.
Time to split teh audience into those willing to pay fotr the premium service and those who are not.
Maybe the Sky coverage will be the modern version of the old Brooklands maxim - "The Right Crowd... and no Crowding".

TBH as much as I hate sky, I hope that the new viewer demographic wont include the Ham fanboys who started watching 2/3 years ago and now think they know all of the sport, because they couldn't afford the football subs..

Ok, good points. But why can other sports offer so much access to little cost and be very fan friendly. Im not on about football which has the same business model as F1. There are lodas of apps specialising in sport that are free and offer a massive insight intot he sport at no extra cost and enhance the experience, the Rugby World cup is a good one, so is the World Rally Cahmpionship apps. even NASCAR has a free app for people stateside to get live info from the track.
But f1 seems to be falling apart with people just wanting to line there cloud with gold.

See the third post of the thread. There is a free app available direct from Formula1 to accomodate you, a fan who is unwilling to pay to experience your sport.the BBC Sky is discusses elsewhere cant be bothered with that here.
