Mysterious Stack Sensor........

I've got some kind of stack sensor stuck to the top of the fuel tank on the Tuscan. Its not a level sensor or anything to to with the fuel system, its just a black plastic box about 30mm x 30mm x 30mm with a cable disappearing behind the dash. Could it be a lateral G sensor or accelerometer?
