RAC Rally/ VW drivers

it would appear from the above report that Kriss Nissen has little knowledge of the UK rallying scene and has declared that there are no UK drivers of interest to him to want to try out.

Hmmm, little bit disappointed by this, and I would like to know what his criteria are for selection. Surely not an ability to pay....

If he is reading this then off the top of my head I can think of half a dozen of so UK drivers that wold merit the ride

Elfyn Evans
Alistair Fisher
Harry Hunt
Adam Gould
Keith Cronin


I find it unbelieveable that motorsports director can have such narrow vision. I won't be suporting the VW programme.

I was hoping somebody would bring this up. It’s basically a kick in the teeth for the sport in these Islands. In Germany, Finland & Spain, ‘local’ drivers have driven one of the VW run Skoda Fabia S2000’s. Yet at Rally GB (not RAC) there are no native drivers.
There are good enough drivers out there. There must be other reasons.
Breen – Ford connections, McCormack – Citroen connections, Cronin – no drive this year, Bogie - ???, Evans - ???. What about Greer & Barrable – they drive a Skoda Fabia…
My one doubt with the VW Rally programme is Kris Nissen himself – couldn’t they have got somebody else to be the Manager. Look at Audi’s Motorsport boss Dr Wolfgang Ulrich….now he knows what he’s doing.

Kris Nissen is one of them roundy roundy types isn't he?

maybe it is as simple as there being no support from the UK head office. But with Skoda having an IRC programme, and VW doing the VW cup in the UK and the MD of Seat racing in the championship you'd think they'd be prepared to spend the bunce to see an British (Irish) guy in the car.

I do wonder whether people think Matt Wilson is the best we can produce these days?

I think Cronin deserves a look by somebody, not sure how good bogie really is as he didn't have a strong benchmark to compete against this yeat

Personally feel wilks has had a few goes now (this year in particular with his IRC programme) and though he can be fast he seems to have too many accidents, particularly when you think of the age he is at now

So VW wont choose Uk drivers because none of them are good enough or have enough experience, yet they choose someone who ive been told has one season of rallying under his belt!?

Shameful really. Local bias maybe but struggle to see how they can overlook someone with the performance and car experience of David Bogie
