Wheldon trophy at the FF festival.

Just a respectful thought as we come to terms with the loss of DW. Quite correctly there are already many suggestions that will ensure that his legacy will not be forgotten at an international level.

At a grassroots UK level Dan has woven a significant part of the rich tapestry that is the history of FF and the FF festival in particular. On the assumption that the brave new era of FF will ensure that this formula will go from strength to strength would it not be a nice idea to have a trophy in his honour at the FF festival. Given the fact that his success was essentially Stateside (although the truly despicable Daily Mail was unable to grasp this fact)to award the trophy on an annual basis to the most successful driver from the Americas would seem just right.

So how about it ?

What were the Daily Mail on about? I would've thought Wheldon's career was significant enough to warrant a tribute more considerable than the best driver from the Americas in the FFord festival, maybe the FFord title trophy, or that Autosport young driver award thing, something like that.

The Daily Mail on-line article painted the picture of some relatively unknown,down-on his luck driver trying to bounce back from a poor season (winning only some minor race known as the Indy 500). Blinded by the lure of a share in 5m bucks he was making a "desperate attempt" to win the race when the inevitable accident happened. DW succumbed to his injuries despite the Daily Mail scoop that he was "wearing a helmet".

Maybe the News of the World did deserve the chop but the Mail always has been a more malignant media influence...
