I know he has had a really tough time of late with his girlfriend Nicole ShirtSlinger wink and the subsequent break up, not to mention the vendetta Massa seems to have established with him.

However i remember DC saying that Lewis' driving style was akin to the great Senna, he did what was necessary to win and sometimes crossed the line too but he was ambitious and i wouldn't fault him.

Therefore i feel it is time to show a bit of support for the poor lad and rally around as both a country and society of car/motorsport enthusiasts to give the McLaren boys our backing. Lewis is and always will be a great driver and yes he can get a bit OTT at some stages but show me one great racing driver who hasn't. Jenson thinks his way forward and Lewis charges his way through, different styles but both brilliant.

Anyone share my feelings on this subject?

And if by some sheer miracle Lewis happens to read this hopefully it will give him to get some sort of boost for the next season cheers guys. smile

Why is he any more deserving of support than any of the other drivers on the F1 grid?

I'm not sure we want to encourage the Senna 'style' of driving. MSc followed and developed it, others have tried as well, with varying levels of success.

I'm a big fan of him as he drives for McLaren so I'm also probably biased a bit. However, I have to say that I find him compulsive viewing. There's always the feeling that something will happen.

There does seem to be a very strong 'anti' element, including in the pit lane. The reasons for this are not known but there have been suggestions. F1 is entertainment and LH is, in many ways, a class entertainer. Good on him. Without him there would have been a number of rather less exciting seasons.

rofl I definitely couldn't poppet, but I know for damn sure that if I was lucky and talented enough to be in his position I would be be working my arse off to get the results rather than moping around like a petulant child.

Just because one doesn't agree with your hand wringing sycophantic post does not automatically make one a troll. wink

Perhaps now that he is free of trying to sort out his business life, personal life and F1 life he can concentrate more on the one that made him what he is today and improve in that area to reach the potential level he should be operating at.

I following him through his formative years but something seemed to be starting to go wrong towards the end of his first torrid year in F1. He was very much a different man in 2008. Not as approachable but certainly still on the right track.

Over the off season of 2008/9 something changed dramatically, and I would suggest it was the loss of his father's stabilising influence that caused this, together with Lewis starting to believe his own hype.

I hope that over the next six months he starts to address some of the personal issues which have impacted on his efforts in the hot seat. I genuinely believe that he is at a turning point in his life and career right now and hope that he chooses to concentrate more on the things that bring the trappings than the trappings.

Good luck Lewis.

Great post. People that don't agree simply shouldn't post in here. This is not the place to analyse or to judge. Despite his troubles on the track, IMO he makes F1 what it is.

It is however the place to debate . . . . . .

Not really, Vettel is a good example of how Hamilton should handle himself. You would think Hamilton is the younger and less experienced of the two.

Maybe because some of us would like to see a tad more emphasis on fast drivers & cars, for cerebral sporting interest Chess has been doing a better job for much longer laugh

Exactly the same reasons that KK gets an inordinate following I'd say. Raw speed & guts over attritional jiggery-pokery is surely in the heart of most fans, even though they succumb to short-lived bias as fans of particular teams at certain times?

I think the original post was a recognition that he's actually had a bit of a tough ride, and taken alot of flak for various quarters, but at the end of the day he's just human.

Most drivers deserve support, but there is an argument to say Lewis has had a bit of bad luck and has not been given much slack - so rather than take joy in his misfortune, sadly a very british hobby, perhaps it is time to feel some sympathy.

That argument feels quite appropriate at the moment.

Personally i would like to see Lewis ditch his current management team and get his dad back on board, afterall it was his dad that was with him on his very sucessful rise up to F1 with the financial backing of mclaren. Something seems to be very wrong this year. I really hope he can put the troubles of this year behind him and come back stronger in 2012.

I've always supported him and won't be stopping anytime soon. He's by far the most exciting driver on the grid, probably the most naturally talented on the grid and I'd say he's also the fastest driver on the grid.

Plus he's one of the few actual racers and he seems to be a genuinely nice guy away from the track. I haven't really understood why there is so much hate from the chap on here and in the press but hey ho smile.

That's just my opinion before the Hamilton Haters arrive wink.

Erm, aren’t all the drivers in the top teams capable of being fast? . . . . . .Vettel for example seems to be so quick, that this season he's scored an almost record breaking number of fastest laps and pole positions.

Or do you believe that we should blindly support a fast yet inconsistent / erratic driver, capable of great raw speed over a single lap . . . . .would he not be more suited to hill climbs and sprints, where raw pace is more important than completing long'ish races?

& discuss i shall!....

i think personally his problems get a lot of detractors on here simply as his problems come down to one unattractive quality, immaturity.

now, before the flame, let's get one thing straight, we've all been there! but when some of us on here (dare i say a little older & wiser) see someone acting like kevin the teenager you tend to immediatly think "what a tt".

that's not to say he isn't alone, take any driver on the grid (at least any in the spotlight) & you will inevitably see some character flaw or another. i think it's in the nature of the beast, i know of one lad on the mclaren programme that lewis followed, & he's always away, private tutors for schooling, personal trainer for condition etc etc these kids are brought up to know no bounds to their own ability. a fantastic oppertunity no doubt, but the basis for a well rounded upbringing? the kid i know has a fantastic family so i don't doubt he'll be fine, as did lewis but what happens when all that support around him crumbles?

it is bound to take a little time for all these things to come out in the wash so to speak, lewis is still a young man, making the errors of judgement that young men make, it's just that he does his infront of the worlds media & a few million keyboard warriors!

hands up who hasn't acted like an utter knob over a brake-up with a girlfriend at that age? we've all done it, some of us maybe hit the town with the lads a bit too often, maybe got into trouble at work for it etc it's a massive life changing event- i ended up working in a bar in spain for 3 years when i split up with my gf, oh happy days they were!

but anyway i digress, people compare him with button, but it aint apples with apples, jenson has figured out what works for him, support from family & partner, who knows what smoke they have to blow up his arse to kep him in a happy place but then who cares when it's working?! mind you it wasn't all sweetness & light when he was in the second half of his championship year remember...

so yeah give the lad a bit of a break, no-one will really know what's going on in his head, but it does look pretty obvious doesn't it? unfortunatly he doesn't even seem to have a gang of friends around him to offer support, so it can't be easy. he'll have grown up pretty secluded doing what he did i reckon, it says something that the closest people around him in his short time in f1 have been his father & brother. the guys moves out of the country & people get left behind. if i was in his management team i'd be getting some people on board, we all need friends in this life & p-diddy or jay z may not be the most approachable!

i'm sure he'll come through it, he just needs to get some mates around him, out with lads chasing tail, enjoying what it must be like to be one of the best in your field, living a jetset lifestyle.

if he's still acting the same way in 3 years time it might be a problem smile

(oh yeah & if by some small chance you are reading this lewis, & you do need a mate, well, i'm available. it'll be fine, i've got an airport close by so you could send a private jet-i'll be there in a jiffy! got to say though, i'm not so sure about switzerland, we could have much more fun in monaco wink )

Drivers earn the 'backing', at this moment in time LH is less deserving than say JB or SV. Time for somebody to give poor little Lewis a kick in the nuts and educate him on the history of massively talented drivers deserving of an F1 career that didn't get the opportunity. I maybe harsh but my gut feeling is he needs to man-up, focus on his career and just shag different women at random.
