Strange post this just finishing an amazing season of watching the stockcars this season all around the country and its just a question to the ph massive as to why there arnt more pistonheaders at the events for the following reasons

1. 500bhp+ tuned v8s (mainly chevys)
2. Two diffrent surfaces shale and tarmac so true test of the ultimate drivers (diffrent watching experience)
3. purpose built space frame race cars amazingly prepared
4. close racing final race of the year settled the major championship between the top 4
5. the fastest racers have to fight through the pack as they start at the back
6. easy watching diffrent roof colour to show the diffrent grades of drivers
7. full contact to add a diffrent aspect to the racing (although regulated not banger racing!!)
8. very cheap to watch
9. open pits able to study the cars and meet the drivers

just curious as I think it is one to the best uk motorsports at the moment and the sound of the engines and watching a superstar driver moving through the field to the front at times four abreast through the corners sidecars on shale in my eyees must be a petrol heads dream.

hopfully this could lead to more pistonhead cars in the carpark!

Thanks
Andy
(xmas meeting in coventry if anyone facies it)

Why do they have giant deck-chairs on the roof?

to help put the weight onto the side of the car needing traction (oval so always turning left) also they are painted diffrent colours based on driver colours so you are able to watch the superstars (red) moving through the other colours easily.

i just dont understand why hence the post, it seems to be one of the few motorsports still getting faster rather than "captain safty" slowing them down/ making them more boring.

Looks like the type of motorsport for those with 19 kids and a wife who's also their sister.

Oval racing is absolutely dire as well.

That aside it's probably more entertaining than an F1 race on a new circuit.

Ive never seen f1 stockcars live but seen it on that tv program early in the year and there is simpily no respect between the drivers the crews of the team are even worse more the women who just shuts knock him off.

I do watch the f2 stockcars around mendip when theres banger racing, rebels and other series down there as its only an hour away and its different to the normal track racing but if say a meeting at mendip and a round of the btcc i would go to see the btcc.

im quite close to one of the teams in the program having watched for 20 years and I have to say the majority of that program was tv bulls%it and most of the teams including the two on the show are perfectly friendly towards each other, where would tv be without dramatisation!

The UK Intellectual Property Office blocked an attempt by Bernie & Co to register "F1" as a Trademark a few years ago...

Years ago I used to go to a lot of Stock car racing, when you had wainman, Smith and Willie Harrison all at it hammer and tong. One of the best meetings was always Boxing day in Sheffield, until you have seen it close up you cannot understand how quick this sport is. As for skill, the current crop of drifters, i doubt could not drfit as far and as fast, whilst others attempt to knock you off at the same time.

Not F1? Not interested is the PH view. They don't even need to watch it before deciding it's boring and the solution would be to poor vast amounts of money into it for some reason.

Not seen the F1 cars in action, but happy childhood memories of going to Bovingdon to watch an assortment of bangers, Ministox and 2 litre hot rods. There was also a guy with a Firenza who always won the public time trials. Happy days.

Nah i have seen the odd bank hol oval track action .. Tried watching it, but no .. Just a bit boring .. Banger smashing was ok with a beer, but it all got a bit meh pretty quick.. Maybe if it was a bit more upmarket but the amount of chavs around makes you wanna f'off as quick as you've arrived.

I used to be interested, but lost it recently. F1 Stockcars are animals, but I honestly feel - are wasted on 1/4mile ovals. However, they are the closest thing in the UK to this:

American Sprint Cars - typically 850-950hp direct drive, no clutch, monster wings, generally on dirt surfaces.
Now these are awesome to watch in the flesh, TV doesn't do them justice, in a similar way to F1 Stocks. There are a number of these (to a lower spec with 360ci V8's and typically 600hp) in the UK - and it's growing. It's non-contact, unlike F1 Stocks, and I think that's where the interest is growing.

Are the American tracks a bit bigger then? Can't see them extending the ones we've got tbh.

I started going to F1 stock meetings again after a 20 year break and became hooked.
The engines are very radicle , Not really Chevvy at all, Purpose built alloy blocks and heads, Forged cranks ,Rods and pistons.
Most seem to use a " Small Block engine" for better weight distribution, But because of the after market block can be as big 490 cubes, Power output 650 to 700 but with a very flat torque curve.
Must say the sound of 30 of these cars racing around the oval does grab your attention some what.
Also because the better the driver you are the further you start back ,So watching the Star grade working their way thru the field in 25 laps is great.
Best of all most tracks do a special rate for us old duffers , So not may places you can go and get a afternoon or evenings fun for a tenner.

First went to Brandon, near Coventry, in the early sixties, when I was at school. Watched both speedway and stock cars. Travel back up there a couple of times every year with my son. Stock cars, a night with hometown mates and a few beers. Great drivers at the top end of their sport. Something best seen and heard in the flesh, dam good fun.
