Apparently the commercial rights holder has gone bust:

http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/96585

There was a similar article in the Times today stating new investment is now required to ensure the 2012 season will go ahead. Surprised there hasn't been a single thread on here about this!

If it has gone into administration then the administrators will keep the profit making bits running won't they?

Has the WRC been a profit making bit for the past few years when there has only been a few manufacturers in it?

North One is the commercial rights holder, who runs the teams isn't as important as how much ESPN has paid to show the championship.

Their not even publishing Rallycourse any more I've just realised. My dad has loads that mum used to buy him and used to look through them as a kid and at the 5 day epic events they used to run. Such as shame to see it all like this.

The sale of the rights was Todt's first move to increase the income of the FIA now that F1 just brings in pennies.

Wasn't the deal made before he became President? I'm sure it was under Max's reign, but the deal started in 2010 - if anything Jean Todt wasn't overkeen on NorthOne taking over - but it was too much trouble to cancel the agreement.

The WRC just lurches from one crisis to another....
As mentioned Rallycourse no longer exists, whereas Auto/Motocourse both still are, and Pirelli have dropped their sponsorship of the Martin Holmes Yearly Annual...

The FIA has said it is working on an "immediate plan" to make sure the 2012 World Rally Championship goes ahead as planned following the news that CSI has gone into administration.

Convers Sports Initiatives, the parent company of the World Rally Championship's commercial rights holder North One, went into receivership last month.

The man in charge of CSI, Vladimir Antonov, was arrested in London as part of an investigation into the striping of assets from Bankas Snoras.

The governing body said on Wednesday it is committed to ensuring the future of the championship and that it is working on a plan to ensure all elements are in place for the 2012 to start as planned.

"The World Motor Sport Council discussed the recent developments involving the Championship Promoter, North One Sport, and its parent company, CSI, which has gone into administration," said the FIA in a statement.

"The FIA is committed to ensuring the long-term commercial future of the Championship and will make every endeavour to provide for its future stability.

"The FIA is working on an immediate plan to ensure the fundamental sporting and safety elements will be in place for the start of the 2012 season."

As a consequence of that, the FIA said the registration date for the 2012 championship for manufacturers will be put back to 19 December.

Rallying is not the sport it used to be. That isn't the old man in me talking - driving up and down the same bit of road for a couple of days is not the same as driving from one side of Kenya to the other in a t-shirt.

And, as far as I'm concerned, all their other problems stem from this:

Rally driving was always about souped up versions of road cars on the stages. It didn't matter how bonkers they got (Group B) they were still rally versions of road cars. Now, they're nothing more than space-frame lookalikes, with stupid driving positions that bare less relation to the road-going counterparts than a DTM car.

As far as I know modern WRC cars are not space frames, although (At least) some of the Group B cars where. Please tell me how a 6R4 related to the road going Metro. hehe

Anyway, stop talking irrelevant rubbish.

Hmm. Pleasant chap, aren't you? I fail to see how it's irrelevant. Or rubbish.

Yes, they did make a road-going 6R4. I think they only Group B car that didn't have a road-going car that shared an engine and general drivetrain configuration was the final iteration of the Delta - the supercharged/turbocharged one.

There are actually road-going versions of the Lancia Delta S4:

As for the Metro, I'm pretty sure there were bits of production Metro used in the shell - either the roof, doors, front firewall, or some other bits.

One of the main problems for me is that I dont think many of the events inspire anymore.

Seeing cars blast through Africa or over ridiculously huge rocks on the Acropolis rally used to be a big spectacle, but now events are too samey.

Plus Loeb winning all the time dosnt help!

I have heard that.

Now that you mention them, I am aware of the road going 6R4s they weren't exactly widely available though where they? The rally car was not a 'souped up road car', it was a purpose built and designed rally car. The only reason there was a road car was for homologation and as we know, because this is brought up in every WRC and BTCC thread going, homologation is too expensive for manufacturers to be interested.

But anyway, this is offtopic its not related to dodgy dealings or whether the WRC will go ahead next year.

ETA: I don't wish for there to be anyone upset, I'm sorry for the way I came across in my first reply to you.
