Hillclimb car - BMW 320 IRL

[BMW320IRL]

I want to show you our Hillclimb car.
As you see, the basis is an E30 but now there is an 3,5l V8 inside and a gearbox from formula1 and the aerodynics changed the original style of the E30 a bit


Technical Data:

- 3.5l V8 from Indy Racing Ligeaue (IRL)
570HP @ 11300rpm
- F1 gearbox (Prost) , shifted per steering wheel controls
- race-ready weight 860Kg (because of regulations)

That is right, it took quite a long time to adjust the gearbox. But a team mate did a perfect job and now it works great and the shifting time is quite good

The downforce on this thing is insane!

OP, not especially familiar with hill climbing regalia so excuse me if this is a stupid question but why the E30? Didn't you want a newer chassis? Something more bespoke? Or is this to meet class regulations?

After great pre-season testings, the car was prepared for the first year of 2012 for team edlinger. At Rechberg, Erich Edlinger showed about 30000 people watching all of his great driving abilities and after a great day he was the best Austrian driver and best overall touring car, he even left great drivers like Herman Waldy behind him and was ahead of some F3000 and achieved a sensational 8th place in the overall classification!

I love this car.

Two things.

1, does ground effect make up a large proportion of this cars downforce?

2, And is the aero package tested using a wind tunnel/cfd? Or is it theory based i.e. The bigger the wing/venturi tunnel the better?
