Ford Mondeo NASCAR

New Mondeo will be called Fusion in the US, as many of us already know. Wish they'd actually put a stinking V8 in the production version too!

Nah, it's front/all wheel drive, and the Mondeo is now the size of an aircraft carrier (i.e. mid size US sedan), so it's about right.

The old Fusion was much bigger than the current Mondeo, but still FWD, and despite them having their NASCAR be a 'Fusion', the production model offered a 3.5 V6 as its biggest, most powerful engine. Same with the Chevy Impala and Toyota Camry, why use them as NASCARs, huge, 800bhp V8 monsters, when your best production model produces 250bhp from a V6 at best? Dodge had it right with the Charger, production version 'could' be had with a 3.5 V6, but they also do a 6.1 Hemi V8. This is what Ford should do with the new Fusion/Mondeo, stick a socking great V8 in it, make it RWD with a proper manual and no driver aids. Of course we'd still get the 2.0D as our best choice .
Don't know why they don't just call it Mondeo over there as well. Considering the other pile of ste that Ford decided to give the Fusion name to...

Tha last Fusion I was in over there was about the size of Focus estate. In fact thats exactly what it felt like, aside from the different shape outside. Maybe there's more than Fusion?

In Oz they get the XR5T, which I assume has the Focus ST engine with a different tune(?)




But as we know, NASCAR, V8 Supercars and even BTCC are really just silhouette class racing. There's little of the road car in them, if anything at all. Bring back homologation!

Chevrolet did introduce a V8 version of the Impala (or maybe Monte Carlo) road car a few years back as I recall, was still front wheel drive though and no idea if they are still making it.

I'd like our top saloon car series in this country to feature RWD and non-rev limited 900bhp V8s, rather than the weedy asthmatic rev-limited things that sound like angry wasps rather than racing cars that it currently does.

Looking at Wikipedia, the current Mondeo rides on a 112" wheelbase, and the current Fusion 107". Both are 190" long, give or take a few fractions, and the Mondeo is actually 2" wider. You may be thinking of the current Taurus, which is a class up but looks similar if you squint.

the current Nationwide car is styled as a Mustang and I thought that was going to carry through tp the cup car. I guess the fusion is what the marketing guys want to push at the moment.

17'. Bloody hell. I've got a 14 seater minibus that's shorter than that.
