Looks like the BRDC has sold out .. reports in the motoring press are that they have sold Silverstone to a Middle East investment company.

Seems like a dumb thing to to to me..

Derek Warwick and co have sold the jewel in the crown IMHO.

Whats you opinion ?

So nows the time to move the British Grand Prix back to Donnington.
How does it keep happening that anything worth having seems to get sold to foreign buyers. Cadbury, Jaguar Land Rover, Thorntons, TVR, Mini, MG and now Silverstone. (That was kept quiet). We should get the foreign investment but keep the ownership British.

It was a rather misleading headline on the front of Motorsport News I thought. What is under discussion is the sale of a lease to run the place and complete the development plan. The talk seems to be of a 100-150 year lease. Not an outright sale of Silverstone.

Closer to the truth than most of it.

Buying a 100 or 150 year lease amounts to much the same sort of thing as buying it.
(Go and buy a nice house in a nice part of London. Chances are you will be buying a 99 year lease).

Either way, Silverstone and it's operations will now be controlled by the Arabs.

Yes, but not quite.

You sell it you have nothing to come back with if you don’t like what is being done.

You lease it and you can make stipulations that they have to comply with or the lease gets pulled.

The problem (as I see it) is that the legal team(s) they have had dealing with their leases and property documentation in the past hasn't (haven't) exactly covered themselves in glory. This could have been as a result of piss poor instructions, but if that were the case they should, as I have to, try to get these fleshed out otherwise you get all sorts of detail issues that only crop up when, say, you try to close a road to public access and suddenly find you can’t.

Last year I stumbled on a internet page that I thought a bit strange.

It was placed by a very big investment type company it related to the sale of Silverstone.

I emailed the company (sorry but I can't remember who they were) to ask for more information they replied thanking me for pointing out the web page.
They implied in their email that it was more of an investment thing than a outright sale.

The web page was pulled very soon after`I sent my email.
