king ridiculous humid, but the lases were top notch!Don't rule out Italy. You can get General Admission tickets for €70ish. Stay up in Como or similar and train in - €3 IIRC. Free transfer buses. Train home free. Passionate fans and you get to walk the track afterwards. Or camp there for the full atmospehere...
As for Budapest - nice city, nice people, worth going for a few extra days to visit as well.

we went in 2005 or 2006, schumi won, button was third in the BAR. we were the only people with a BAR flag! the atmosphere was great and the crowds were friendly. Budapest is an amazing city and its good fun over the gp weekend. you will need to book the flights early though.
the hungaroring is about 30 mins away from budapest but there are shuttle buses running from the station to the circuit. in typical european fashion its a scrum to get on but they are frequent and free with a gp ticket (not that they check), taxis will take you to the circuit and its a fixed price displayed on the window. just be careful on the bus (and elsewhere) for pickpockets, thieves and the general opportunistic criminals rather than anything too serious. the walk to the station is through the less salubrious parts of town and F1 fans wil lstick out like a sore thumb so just cover up a bit and you wont attract any attention. my wife and i were followed by some teenagers but i made it clear that we knew they were following us and they walked off (obviously, i am powerfully built

At the circuit. general admission should get you into some good spectator spots, the banking at the back of the circuit between S8 and S2 is good but there is no shade so if its hot, you will melt. its changed a bit as we were in the bronze grandstand which doesnt appear tobe there anymore, it was further along from Silver 8. Silver 2 would give you a great view of a lkot of track. Its all relatively simple and hassle free at the circuit although there isnt much there, certainly compared to the likes of silverstone so its worth taking some food and drink with you. they actually ran out of baguettes the year we were there!
we stayed in the centre of budapest at the Hotel Delibab which was cheap and cheerful but the campsites at the circuit looked good fun although the number of hungover germans gave the impression that they were long and noisy nights.... give yourself a day either side for wanderinga round Buda and Pest too. Bars and things in the city are nice and reasonably priced, especially on the side streets off Andrassy...
we got our tickets from the hungaroring website rather than a third party and there were no problems. the three corner ticket looks really good value

I went there a few years ago, a weekend ticket was good value with stand seat on the final bend. Echo the comment about food it's not as well catered for as Silverstone.
Camped just outside the circuit which was amazing, more like a three day party. Loads a food venues and beer tents and I think just about every hooker from the local area there with their own camp.
All in all tremendous atmosphere but a long drive. Yes I did drive there but that was part of the fun.

Went last year and had a brilliant time.
Stayed in Budapest in a hotel/boat on the Danube which was good value.
Travel to the circuit was dead easy with the shuttle buses.
You got the impression that the GP isn't a big deal there ( I wonder how long it will last) but that makes it a lot easier with stuff like access.

I've done Spa 3 times now for the 6 hours, love the place but fancy somewhere different as it will never compare to the freedom you get round the track at the 6 hours weekend.
Heard bad things about Italy, a lot of hoolaganism if your not wearing red.
Malaysia has some cracking deals at the moment but just out my price range.

ha we saw jenson win... stayed at a rather posh hotel Normafa up in the hills with pool and every facility available at a very reasonable price and the service was excellent. the hotel even arranged for a food parcel when we had to leave very early and would miss breakfast... top notch
