Ferrari vow to protect Massa

Ferrari needs to rally around Felipe Massa in order to lift his performances in future grands prix, according to team principal Stefano Domenicali.
"In my view the problem is that this car is quite difficult, not easy. It can be very good and it can also be quite difficult."
Surely a clear confirmation that Massa has some photos of Domenicali and di Montezemelo trying to out-do Moseley in some seedy Milan strip joint. "In my view the problem is that this car is quite difficult, not easy. It can be very good and it can also be quite difficult."
Seriously, do they really not think they can get some better results by ditching him and slotting in someone who at least seems keen to do a decent job?

If they're serious about winning championships then they need to stop making excuses for a driver who clearly isn't delivering.
Rumours are that Alonso can say yes or no to his team mate. Can't think why he should beleive it so important. From Alonso's point of view, Massa is about as good as it gets. From a Ferrari point of view they are likely to have a shot at the WCC if they have two decent drivers but then that will dilute their efforts. A one man team worked in the past. Fast Eddie was never a problem. The only thing at the moment is that they need a decent car.
Perhps Massa might be pressured into being magnanimous again and swopping seats with someone in another Ferrari based team.
Their first priority is surely to sort the car out, as unless there is another Alonso out there who has yet to be discovered, neither WCC or WDC is on this year with the car as it is, unless Bernies sprinkler idea is set to come into effect from the next race on.

Irvine was very nearly Ferrari's biggest ever problem, can you imagine the reaction if he'd taken the championship in 99? They'd laid all their eggs in one basket with the highly paid German and the chosen number 2 came oh so close to beating him to the prize. The poor pace from Massa is one thing but his 'defend or crash' attitude to racing is, imo, his biggest weakness. I think that the only thing that stopped his jinking and faked side-swipes resulting in an accident was him being so slow. That and JB being ultra-wary around him.
I doubt we'll see him replaced before the end of the season but I can't see him on the grid let alone in red next season.

You maybe right and Perez may well have his arse in a Ferrari at some point, either this season or the next, but him backing off on Ferrari orders is just laughable if you were watching the same race as I was.
You did see it, and hear the comment from the SAuber pit?"Errr, we need THIS place, THIS place"
"Roger"
Five seconds later Perez makes a "mistake" handing Alonso the win.
