It could be interessting to see the these costs brought up to todays price levels. Note staff salaries are a average £30 p.w.

If 1970...

that is the equivalent of £3,394,897.50 now, just using rate of inflation, nothing about exotic materials now used or sponsorship that means more money can be spent, etc.

I know in 1987 teams were spending around £10 million.

In Micheal Oliver's Lotus 49 book, there is a section on how cheap everything was back then. Not even looking into inflation the costs were much lower.

I think I remember Ken Tyrell saying that his budget for 1969 was £100,000, of which £75,000 was Jackie Stewart's wages.

I think that I recall that in the late 70's, during the JPS era, Motor Sport reported that Lotus GP had a budget of £4million to spend. Having recently watched the Classic GPs on ESPN you can see how simple things were in those days.

Stewart GP sold out to Ford as they could not raise more then £25million in 1999.

The £36million it now takes for HRT to achieve precisely nothing is simply ridiculous. IMHO

So the second driver was paying the wages of the first driver. Not that much has changed then
