In the years a GT class car won Le Mans, and across the mid 90s GT1 class cars seemed to be just as quick as the Prototypes. I know the F1 GTR seems to get alot of press for winning it outright, but it appears in this era the GT1 cars were quick no matter what marque.

How come they were so fast compared to the (quicker or meant to be!) Prototypes?

In the 90s I was a child so excuse my ignorance...

1995. It rained and Lehto was magic. And Mario Andretti binned the Courage - which should have won easily. There were very few prototypes in the race.

94 was the Dauer which was just a Porsche 962 and not really a GT1 car.

98 the GT1 class were basically prototypes anyway after Porsche and then Mercedes especially had bent the rules of GT1 completely. They weren't road cars in the slightest (despite one of each being made).

It's a shame GT1 is no more at Le Mans frown I suppose Group C is considered the golden age by most but I loved the mid to late 90's era.
