So there's a lot of outcry over Bahrain, Berne is obviously too corrupt and eager to make money to call the race off....and there's a lot of people saying it shouldnt go ahead, but who on here is actually going to watch the race, I for one won't be watching the race and making money for Bernie and the corrupt government!
Back in 2011 I posted some pretty graphic video on last seasons version of this thread. So I have seen the extremities of what is going on, however I'm just going to enjoy the race and not let politics get involved.
One aspect no one has mentioned on any of these threads is that we race in Monaco and that place harbours many drug and arms dealers, we race in china and India and they don't look after their indiginious population very well either. Also not so long ago many major cities in the uk were on lockdown. We're about to race in America and due to their economic decisions their country is in trillions of dollars of debt. So everything and everywhere is borkerd, I'm a race fan not a political activist.

Who on here understands the issues in Bharain? Who on here has been there and found out for themselves what those issues are? Are the people protesting just general thugs like we had in London this year burning and pillaging or are they something else more legitimate?
I myself don't know the answer to these questions because I only have the media as a news source so I am not in a position to make any judgments. But I DO know sport should NOT be politicised for any reason nor blamed by anyone for political reasons either.

The media is not one amorphous lump. There are lots of outlets to enable you to read and assess the problems that beset this particular country.
Based on what I have have read, the fundamental problem is that we have a country that has been run by a family for over half a century. The family is of one branch of Islam which is actually a minority branch in Bahrain and as a result, has favoured that minority branch over the majority of the population who belong to a different branch.

Sauber have released this statement:
"Yesterday (Thursday) night at 2030 (local time) a minibus of the Sauber F1 Team had left the circuit to go back to the Novotel in Manama. At 2050 (local time) the 12 mechanics being on tha...t bus noticed fire on the medial strip of the highway. The traffic was slow, cars had their hazard flashers on. On the opposite lane there was no traffic. The team members saw a few masked people running from there over to their lane where a bottle was burning as well. The mini bus moved to the very right side of the highway and went passed the situation. No one from the Sauber F1 Team was hurt."

Sounds like Saudi and Iran and Iraq and pretty much anywhere else where Muslims are in power. And it is power we are talking about here and not religion. In fact it sounds like the same issues that have been plauging mankind since we began. One warlord lording it over his vassals and the vassals not liking it. Hmm arnt we the same here? Arnt we lorded over by the same MPS and unelected officials in Brussels? Rise up and protest them being in power and you will get treated the same as those in Bharain so I guess we are not so different. We should boycot the race in Silverstone!

From a protestors point of view this is the best chance to grab media coverage, the past few months Syria have dominated the news and will continue with the horrific death toll and this is the only few days where the media is on them for a change
Also cant see them backing down, its a huge divide between sunni and shia muslims where iirc the sunni population are in massive poverty, where the shia are either comfortable/wealthy/insanely rich from oil and im sure you can guess who will benefit/be able to watch the GP!

But will you be watching the next GP, i.e. Is your protest a 1 weekend only gig, then back to business as usual, or are you prepared not to tacitly condone Bernie et al, and affect a real change, if you stop watching for good, and enough you do, viewing figures go down, sponsors will be upset, would question an association with that vile BCE, and his amoral politics, and would hit him where it hurts, his income, his pocket, and we all know that's all his interest is.Me? If I were at home I'd be watching, which isn't a cop out, I'm sky+ing it. I might be convinced if the gesture politicking were for real. But I see no one outside of bahrain prepared to walk the walk, and sacrifice something for their principles. Ive not heard an F1 fan being prepared to give up watching F1 on TV, which is hardly manning the barricades.
I see on the BBC news - old Miliband has joined in saying it should not go ahead.

Because he has no belief in anything, although no monopoly on it amongst our politicians, he is certainly one of the worst, (usually late in the day, when he sees he can claim a victory) so bandwagon jumps on whatever he believes his audience wants hear. ked if he is PM, totally useless in a crisis, with a tough decision to make. It would almost account for his weird mouth, as it appears he could say different things out of either side. Like he'd ever been into a gregg's to buy a pasty before the budget....ETA more vitriol
