I was cycling in the North Downs last week and saw this:

Wikipedia said:

"John Player began sponsoring Norton motorcycle racing in November 1971.[2] The racing was successful and Norton produced a version of the Norton Commando in John Player colours to exploit it. However, Norton's NVT parent company commercially declined and John Player withdrew sponsorship in 1974.[3]
In the 1980s Norton Motorcycles was revived and in 1988 John Player resumed racing sponsorship.[4] The racing succeeded again and in 1990–91 Norton produced a road-going version of its RCW588 racer, the Norton F1.[5] In 1991 Norton again commercially declined and John Player withdrew sponsorship for a second time."

I'm assuming this is early 70's sponsorship but would be great to know more...

Norton has a huge nostalgic attraction for me.

My uncle used to race them & he still has one tucked up at the back of his workshop. Although it has been many years since it last fired up, you can open up the fuel-tank & enjoy the beautiful aroma of race-fuel. Gorgeous!

I like the idea of that! Are they worth a lot? I don't know much about historical motorbikes.


No one else can help? Come on chaps, I was hoping for some banal detail on the design of the American winnebago thing before telling me it was really rare and their father used to be the head of the race team etc etc

Built on a Dodge M300 chassis, it's a Rectrans Discoverer 25r.

I know somebody who races at Santa Pod with an identical motorhome to that just without the livery.

It's a massive beast and I love how quirky it is.
