F1 testing back at Silverstone?

Again not much to add but I'd be interested in attending if it's open to the public. Autosport states it will be the week after the Grand Prix so between Monday 9th - Friday 13th of July I assume.

Hope so as the old F1 test days at SIverstone usually made for an enjoyable few days. Especially if it rained. Which it did quite often.

IIRC spectators were banned at the last couple of test sessions as punters thought it great fun to see how many areas of danger that they could get into because "they" ought to stop them if they didn't want them there. There were some long threads on here about it at the time.

I'd imagine it's likely to be a closed session to avoid the cost of security.

I think you might be getting confused with World Series by Renault handing out free tickets to the great unwashed who would then allow their kids to play on that nice bit of grass just on the other side of the fence. I attended all the recent test sessions at Silverstone and the only thing that changed was it went from being free to them charging £10 due to the increased public interest from the Hamilton effect.

No I'm thinking of F1 testing - did they not become closed sessions?

WSR is a whole different thing that many people I know refused to marshal as the punters were so difficult!

Defintely not as it was always a highlight of the year and I can remember my disappointment when Bernie stopped in season testing as opposed to outrage had Silverstone tried to stop me going. It was bad enough having to pay a tenner when it used to be free!

I'm with Jurbie - I can't remember them going closed session at Silverstone, only that they charged a tenner on the gate but opened more grandstands up.

Is this why there's nothing on the WSR website for Silverstone this year [yet]?

I hope it goes ahead - defo worth a day [or 2] off work!!

I think that was the last one they held? I remember a friend was working in the hospitality suite for Shell that day and Kimi was supposed to turn up and show his face, but he couldn't be arsed in the end.

crikey - time flies, after looking at the other test photos, checked when I went to testing at Silverstone - 2005!

Did get in the Red Bull garage though; so had a good view of the pitlane and cars!
