Only supplying engines for top teams such as Mclaren for over 10 years winning numerous world championships.
Mercedes were the 2009 champions under brawn... it's the same team.
Drivers such as Lewis Hamilton,Mika Hakkinen,David Coulthard,Paul Diresta,Micheal Schumacher and Jenson button all owe a bit to mercedes and their collaborative projects for their F1 success.

t the man is. Wouldn't say that Mercedes have 'won a race' & leave at that.
They have won many races with their engines & Bernie is, as always, talking out of his arae.
Grow up Bernie you knob. You can't just have a championship featuring only Ferraris even though we all know that is what you want.

It's certainly Bernie's way of negotiating. I was taught that the opening position determines the closing position. Right now Mercedes have fyou don't think this could be their way of negotiating?
k all, and they'll end up with some minor concessions. If they'd started at a bit, Mercedes wouldn't have settled until they were at parity with Ferrari et al.EDLT said:

Well not to pick bones - The engine was never an mercedes - it's an Ilmor engine and a company built by the late Paul Morgan & Mario Illien and the engines are still built in Brixworth Northamps - not that Mercedes would what you to know that. In fact the only german element of Mercedes F1 is the all important money !Bit of selective memory blanking there ...

My naive POV (I know it's Bernies MO to divide the teams and then conquer):
You either give place for a director to each and every team, or to none at all.
Anything else is just going to generate yet more tedious off the track wranglings, accusations, paranoia and politics which, frankly, are destroying the sport from the inside already.

Wires crossed here. From what I understand since 2002 M-B owns the orignal Ilmor company and in 2005 a new Ilmor Eng was set up by Morgan & Illien.Personally I am not convinced that Ferrari is essential to F1. If Ferrari were to leave would F1 be destroyed? I dont think so. The same applies to any individual team.
What becomes an issue is whether any departing team takes others with them to form a competing series, if Ferrari were to depart to form a seperate series I can see that being an issue.
I know that the teams are competitive but I really cannot understand why they cannot stick together to negotiate with Bernie, unless theres something that goes on behind the scenes that we dont know about. All the teams could walk together and set up a new series. Even all the teams less Ferrari could do it, after all we have seen from HRT, Caterham, and Virgin/Marussi that its not easy to bring new teams in. So Williams, McLaren, Renault, Mercedes leaving on masse and creating a new series would be a serious blow.

Its certainly an unusual spat and the hidden messages in this one are especially murky.
I would hesitate to suggest that Bernie has had his ear tugged by a few established members and been told that they absolutely dont want Merc getting their feet under the table.
Im struggling to see a realistic or profitable opening on any other angle. Im sure there is another angle at work, there always is when Bernie is around, but this one is a bit too opaque for me.

if the teams had any sence, they would make FOTA work and get 1-2 FOTA directors seats to represent them all, (fat chance of that ever happening though)
