I was at Shelsley Walsh this weekend for the Midland Hillclimb Championship, and there was a Lotus class, which had some lovely old F2 cars from the 60s/70s.
My pal and I spied some 'Gold Leaf Team Lotus' liveries - but with the 'Gold Leaf' bit either taped over or omitted entirely.
Now tobacco advertising is illegal that is a given (as a non smoker, do they even make Gold Leaf any more?!.
As it is a low profile event is it possible for them to stick two fingers up to the law books and trust they probably won't be dobbed in? - as one person just had the words covered up ie wanted them there.
Or, as I speculated, would a car fail scrutineering for having something illegal in that country on it?

There was a move by various sporting authorities to exclude "historic examples" from the EU ban. I recall that this extended beyond motorsport into other sports such as Sailing (Silk Cut was a big sponsor of some very successful sailing teams in the 80s IIRC). This was ruled out and the only exception was for static displays but even here, there are strict guidelines that restrict this.
Although small scale events are unlikely to attract EU observers and those spectators attending would no doubt appreciate the historical authenticity, images of the cars can quite easily find themselves in magazines, You Tube, etc and fines for transgression are quite severe.
