I was looking forward to this so I'm a bit miffed to say the least. What an absolute joke; any ideas why? The commentators mentioned something about a problem with the wheels or something but everyone seems to be completely in the dark.

Something to do with safety but there was no info, then the live TV coverage was switched over to the tennis as there was nothing to show..

Apparently its due to the wheel rims. Faults in the materials.

Correct to call it off then. Had something happened which brought an issue to light?

Don't know, that came from the father of one of the drivers. Just seen a tweet that says a press release from Porsche is on its way..

Ballsy move to call it off this late, but absolutely right if that's the case.

Possibly more a tyre issue as the GP3 races etc have shown very heavy wear ( heat and surface ) some tyres down to the canvass.
The Supercup rears are an issue over half an hour an dthis may be the reasons , cannot imagine it being the rims .

If that was the case they'd have a 25 min race. A tyre letting go is nothing compared to a wheel failure.

From Sean Edwards' Twitter:

Weirdest day in my career! The Porsche Supercup race was cancelled due to the wheels being damaged whilst mounting. Safety reasons no racing

I was gutted. I watch the Supercup religiously.

As the commentators said though, why such an absolute last second decision. Why couldn't this have been dealt with last night, or hours before?

I'm sure there's reasons, just very very odd.

I wonder if it was anything to do with Tim Bergmeisters massive crash the other week, that was down to wheel or tyre failure. I wonder where this leaves the Nurburgring 24 Hours, plenty of super cup cars there..

Ouch frown That looked painful, and reading this makes it sound even worse:

Just a short update on my recovery: my lung is nearly working completely again and I will have another surgery on my collar bone next week. The 14 ribs will heal by themselve as my three lower vertebra and my both bladebones will :-) So I am fit and racing soon again! ;-) And thanks again for all the nice wishes and kind words I got during the last days! It´s hard to reply everybody but hope it´s ok I do it this way!? Take care!

So is the problem the wheel mounting onto the hub, or the tyre seating onto the wheel?

Fair enough and I take back my absolute joke comment; it seems like someone made a brave but right decision to abandon the race at the last minute. Hats off to them.
