I've just started reading a new book called "The Limit" which is centered on the racing of the late 50s and early 60s. So far it is very enjoyable.

I'd like the new biography of Tony Brooks too.

Thrust by Richard Noble is 15 years old now, but definatley worth a read.


Also, Senna V Prost by Malcolm Folley



One of the most balanced accounts I have read, and a mile away from the Rubythorn book, which is remarkably thorough but cringeworthingly sycophantic at points.

Flat Out Flat Broke by Perry McCarthy is well worth a read. Funny - properly laugh out loud funny in places - but also quite insightful as well.

'Life at the Limit: Triumph and Tragedy in Formula One' by Prof Sid Watkins is a must read for any fan of the sports back story.

I have read The Limit and can thoroughly recommend it. I was born in the eighties and by the time I got interested in F1 it was the height of the Schumacher/Ferrari era, naturally I wanted to know how it was like 'back in the day'. The Limit is a captivating story of the two main characters in the 1961 showdown and you really get to know the different drivers and the various teams and what it meant to race in those days. Loved it.

Hunt's biography by Donaldson is excellent... as is Lost Generation.

Bernie by Sue Watkins is really a must to have some understanding of the motivation behind the man who has been involved in F1 since the very beginning – raced in the f500 support race at the first Silverstone GP.

I would also recommend Eddie Jordan’s an independent man. It goes from a time when you could become a competitive F1 team for just £5million to a time where £50million got you absolutely nowhere.

Lost generation is a good read,got a couple lined up for my jollies " The fast set " about the land speed record breakers,Cambell Cobb and Seagrave, but one i read time and time again " Drive like hell " about Fords desire to beat Ferrari at endurance racing especially the 24hrs,fantastic book.
