Do we really need this? Derek Warwick seems to think so but then the things he thinks are missing are all in FR and that's none to popular at the moment.

About £40k for a car without engine, a bit cheaper than the current FR but the running costs, going from the engine lease fee, look similar.

Oh well, we'll see.

Looking at it a bit more it seems reminiscent of F BMW.

Christ on a bike do they never learn ? F3 is in trouble- too expensive and UK championship spends as much time in Europe as it does here. FR is - sadly- moribund. F BMW is dead . Ignoring the daft GP2 and GP3 as irrelevancies to people like me who like watching lots of rounds of single seater chsmpionships on circuits I can easily get to we seem to be worse off than ever before for single seater racing, and what we do have is the dire spec formulae. I am absolutely not always a 'good old days ' merchant but it was just soo much better when we had FF1600; FF2000 and F3- massive grids in their heyday, a recognised 'staircase of talent 'and lots of different chassis . Let Formula Talbot be forgotten eh ?

Another entry level single seater series. sleep

If they want something interesting I propose a Formula Ford on steroids champioship.

Slicks, no downforce, lazy production-spec BMW/Mercedes (whichever is cheaper) V12s and they look like this:

This is just what is needed on single seaters its cheaper than FF and yes F3 is in trouble along with FR because its too expensive , and this appears to be the answer around £45k for a car and engine lease thats cheap for a national single seater series and on some good meetings too so might get some sponsors in the door.
Yes it would be great to turn the clock back and have a proper FF festival but its gone we enjoyed it but thats all,
This looks like a real step in the right direction to me.

I think you're being a bit naive.

You could buy the last generation Tatuus for the same sort of money and it was easily possible to run it as a privateer, as many did and still do. Why reinvent the wheel?

Again, wishful thinking that sponsors will be knocking on the door. They didn't for FR, they didn't for F BMW and it made little difference for FR that they were on the BTCC bill, did it?

The only way this will be cheaper than alternatives (not F3 but frankly you can't compare these cars with F3) is if they are run privately. Privateers won't win over a season so the only ones moving on will be those throwing money at it via teams.

Oh well, JP will make something out of it no doubt but I will be surprised if these cars aren't popping up on Racecarsdirect in 2014.

Oh great another grid of 10 or less cars taking rich parente's money. It's a joke. So your 16 have a bit of money behind you and have been karting since a nipper you now have the choice of intersteps, formula ford, formula 4, barc renault if all those drivers raced in the same class there would be grid of 40+. Manufacturer like one make series as they can jack the prices up to stupid money for spares.

I would suggest we need a Single-Seater formula on par with the Ginetta racing series in sports cars. Simple, exciting and obtainable to those below 'Sultan of a big country' level.

lets hope the 750mc have some kind of protection on the name, surely though JP of all people would have known about this though.

The Ginetta series may be less expensive than F4 but I wouldn't consider it to be cheap......

I never said it was cheap.
But it certainly attracts plenty of drivers and spectators.

From experience, all single seater racing has always been expensive. (Formula Vauxhall Lotus etc)

Why is single seater racing so much more expensive anyway, what do they require that a competitive GT/Saloon/Sportscar doesn't?

Club level single seater racing isnt (Monoposto, 750MC F4 etc). In fact I'd say that something like Monoposto 1800 (for F Ford Zetecs, FF 2000s and F Vauxhall Junior 16V) is probably one of the cheapest ways of going racing there is - bullet proof engines, easy to maintain, plenty of spares available (or people that can fabricate things), relatively simple to operate, can use second hand tyres etc. Mono 1800 is also probably one of the quickets series per £ that you can race in too. Definitely recommended. I'm glad I did it, I just wish I'd been good enough/ confident enough to really enjoy it!

At the "career" levels single seaters are expensive because the guys running them usually go testing lots, use lots of new tyres and have strip downs and re-builds after every race/ test. That certainly isn't the case at club level.

We've had this discussion elsewhere. Ginetta Juniors can be run for £14K/season - that includes all entries and tests, and 40 tyres.

They're talking about £100K for a season for this F4 mallarky, which includes the car.

What is disappointing is that the MSA have declared that no single seaters for anyone under 16 (FBMW allowed 14+)

And no slick tyres for Junior formulae. So they run on Slicks from Cadet karts, and up through the ranks, until they reach big cars have have to go back to "road" tyres. It was banded about that this was a cost measure.... no, sorry, don't buy that, top teams/runners will still have new shaved boots for every race.

We don't need another formula. We have far too many formulae now, especially in the ladder to F1. And what makes it all ridiculous is that F1 is the FIA's top of the tree series, yet it is supported by GP2, not F2.

It needs to go back to basics. FF, F3, F2, F1. Anything else goes in F.Libre! And FF needs to be on more simple engine platform, the current plan of a 1.6Turbo is not good IMHO, should be a bog basic 1600 job with about 100-110hp, and a H-pattern 4 speed Hewland box.

Thats all sorted 750 mc have sold effectively the rights to F4 and will have a new name for the clubmans ss championship.
