GT1 @ Donington?

Thinking of nipping down to Donington on Sunday for the GT1 racing.

Anyone been before?

Is it a decent day out?

Tickets are only £15

Yes do it you won't regret it. Just keep an eye on the weather forecast and wear appropriate clothing. I'm in two minds whether to go as I have got soaked at pretty much every race meeting I've been to this year and to be perfectly honest I've had enough for one year.

If you get chance to have a mooch i will be with the supcardriverclub and will be displaying in the centre of the circuit before doing some laps during the intervals with a few of our injured troops, if the weather gets better there should be some pretty exotic machinery on display.

Ta - what's access like at these events - is it a pretty much walk around where ever you like?

British GT's and F3 are very open. At Brands Hatch this year I wandered out onto the grid and usually spend some of the race in the garages. When I was last at Donington it was a similar situation.

I don't know about the FIA series.

I haven't been to FIA GT in a couple of years but recently since the FIA got involved it got much more professional and there was a bit of a clamp-down in the pits. Best time to wander is usually after the race.

I'm going to head down, assuming one of my cars is working by then. Otherwise I'm stuffed.

It's only a 40 minute drive for me so as long as the weathers reasonable i'll be going. I would have thought access would be pretty open. The only recent event i've been to that wasn't was the world superbikes which made it a little bit of pain getting from infield to outfield.

Unless the weather changes to being utter, utter rubboish (as it has been for most the season)myself and a pal will there tomorrow, golf brollies and waterproofs as showers forcase for the pm.

I've not managed to get to a race all season due to work and the weather so really looking forward to this as love GT cars, less keen on single seaters but any so desperate for a racing fix i'm sure I'll enjoy these more than normal as

Hoping it will be mainly dry & a nosey around the paddock would be a bonus

Well I couldn't help myself and popped in yesterday afternoon for the two practise sessions they were running. It was such a joy to hear noisy cars after last weekends quiet fest' at the Britcar 24hour!

FIA World GT1 Championship limps into obscurity. Pretty dismal showing to be honest.

British GT on the other hand was mega - fantastic race. Genuinely exciting when the safety car pulled in with the top 6 in a line and a championship to be decided.

Oh and well done to Jack Harvey, our new British F3 champion. He drove a beautifully controlled race under immense pressure. Reminded me of Alguesari's title winning race at the same venue a few years ago.

any news on Yelmer Buurman?

Christ it was cold.

Excellant day out tho really enjoyed it.

Happened to be right next to both big shunts in the Gt1.

British Gt superb too.

Are all Motorsport events in the Uk outside of F1, as poorly attended?

And I also have no idea how anyone thought Donington would ever be at a standard to host F1.

Question one – Yes with perhaps BTCC excepted

Question two Mr Gillette (sp) and Bernie with his $$$$$ eyes on

BTCC at Donington this year was fairly busy. By comparison, British GT/F3 at Oulton Park, in spite of the weather, was heaving. And that was without the 'draw' of FIA GT1.

To be fair I think MSVR do far more to promote their events - at the right target audience for them (bloke in the street - rather than racing enthuisiast)

Exactly - they maximise the potential of their events. No reason there couldn't be similar crowds at Donington.

Last i heard was at the circuit in that he was being taken for a CT scan as a precaution.

Hell of a smack ,never seen a section of the wall taken out like that.
Dont understand why they bothered to keep going behind the SC, the race would have needed to be stopped to repair the wall anyway, irrespective of Yelmer Buurmans condition??

Strange day all told with few of the races gaining any real momentum as a result of SC's.

British GT was excellent though, was a good race and the one SC deployment actually had a positive effect on the race (well unless you were Matt Griffin....)
