Why do driver/team changes generate so much response?

It seems PH'ers are more keen to discuss who's going where rather than actual discussion about the racing itself.

Reminds me of the way women read magazines about who's dating who.

Most F1 races will generate 50+ page threads from about the Wed before to the Wed after a race, more if something spectacular happens.

Yes the Hamilton to Merc thread runs to 100+ pages, but I'd bet if you removed the talk about other drivers, examples of why he's better or worse than others and barefaced fanboyisum it would run to about 3 pages.

The Hamilton move is a particularly fascinating one because most people do not choose to move from one of the greatest teams ever to one that has poor form and little history.

The Perez move has generated little interest because it seems very sensible for team and driver (except he may be likely to jump ship as soon as Ferrari come calling).

Barefaced fanboys can only take a thread to 100 pages if their opposite numbers are equally vociferous.

Funny you should mention 'opposite numbers' there are 24 drivers on the grid each weekend... There's something particular about Hamilton and Button fanboys, well some of the more vocal ones anyway.

I'm a huge Hamilton fan, I also like JB, not as much, but if LH can't win, I'd like JB to.


But for some reason you can't mention one without the other being brought up and once you do it's 'pistols at dawn' with stats being thrown back and forth, characters being examined and assinated - it seems for the most you can't be a fan of one, without hating the other.
