Sounds reasonable to me, it was not related to normal activity of McLaren, it was a payment which McLaren were forced to make by a regulator in order to stay in business. The alternative for McLaren was to go out of business which would have cost HMRC rather a lot more in lost revenue. A cost of business for McLaren, therefore should be tax deductible.

Not a legal fine imposed by statute but a cost of the business. Completely allowable and HMRC should not have wasted their time pursuing this case.

Either way still nice to see our government torpedoing British industry for a short term gain. I wonder how long it will take before the small amount of cash that HMRC made through shafting Lola is spent on paying benefits to the unemployed staff…
