My son loves watching Nascar on Motors TV, probably due to Lightning McQueen/Cars etc.

Is the USA the only option if I want to take him to see a race?

Rockingham is the only 'proper' oval, and I'm not sure if they run NASCAR-style races on it on a regular basis.

There is national hot rods, which is lots of cars racing around a short oval. You can get closer to the action though.

Rockingham only gets this many spectators for the BTCC:

Rockingham do still run the oval for pickup truck races - www.pickuptruckracing.com. They ran on it three times this year. Other than that there is the world of stock cars on short ovals throughout the country. It is a bit different but it is oval. Search for brisca f1 stock cars, there are also a lot of other categories that are more similar to NASCAR. There is also the new NASCAR euroseries - www.racecarseries.com which came to brands this year. Hope some of that is useful!

Go to watch national hot rods or f1 stock cars...there was even a lightning McQueen f1 paint job at Birmingham last night!

No, nothing "NASCAR" at Rockingham - only a diminishing number of 2L Pickup Trucks that race on the oval a few times a year.
They used to run a proper V8 Stockcar series, but they let the BRSCC run it in 2006/7 and they assassinated it. I raced in the series - it was good in it's day, and had a good following.

There is talk about the Euro Racecar series coming over to run on the oval - they are an official NASCAR sanctioned series running cars very similar to the Canadian Tires NASCAR series. Nothing has been agreed yet, and so far they have supported the DTM at Brands on their trip to the UK.

Other NASCAR-esque Stockcars that have run in the UK include the Euro Late Model Series - based at Warneton in Belgium, they have run at Ipswich Stadium, and Lydden Hill oval. Their best circuit is Venray in Holland - a pukka 1Km-ish high banked oval opened last year.

British "Stock Car" racing is pretty well all 1/4mile oval stuff, a very long way away from NASCAR style.

We also have Sprint Cars running over here now too... they're awesome, making British "F1 Stockcars" look tame, though there are no where near enough of them to make a real spectacle (yet).
