Hi There,

At some point I will need to I will need to get a pedal box to add to my pile of scrap...

Is there a particular one that you folk use, for example would one off a chimaera- griff do the job, just thinking about where clutch - brakes brake servos are located...

Thanks in advance..

Floor mounted one off a T car or Sag...not sure if servo's would fit in tuscan footwell.
We dont have servos...unfortunately, but then neither does F1!

Any racing pedal box can be made to fit though, floor mounted with twin circuit brakes (to allow brake bias adjustment)

The early cars like mine have std top mounted pedals, probably TVR or V8S, but the later ones had floor mounted as they are stronger, easier to mount.

Steve,
I went with the top / bulkhead mounted, standard one that came with the car (boxes of bits) and it's probably my biggest regret on the project. It's a nightmare to make any adjustments, weighs half a ton, was a headache to fit and can't be adjusted to suit drivers of different leg lengths. I'm short, so with an unmodified standard pedal box, you'd end up with the seat so far forward you'd be steering with your chin and reaching behind you for the gear lever.
I'd seriously advise going down the floor mounted route. There appears to be cheaper alternatives to the expensive AP racing stuff, if like me, you bank account isn't a bottomless one.

Thanks ...you see this is where the value of asking comes in!
There is a pedal box off a griff/chimaera on eBay with servo reservoir which I was thinking of getting and using.....to confirm then, if I went this way it makes it hard to get to reservoirs ....and even tho you can wind the pedals out to suit driver...they are still not any good?

I find it hard driving sags and Tuscans ...with floor mounted jobbies...(need an op on both feet) but looks like I might have go this route then?

Top mounted Griff ones are adjustable, Tuscan ones arent.

They can be modded to adjust prior to fitting though for about £30.

Floor mounted is best though. stronger. I'm not keen on the feel of floor mounted as an aside.
Levering from the bottom is a different feel. Just personal preff...

two bad things about floor mounted pedals.
1) feels odd but i suppose you get used to it
2) throttle stuck open when a stone jams behind it.(ask Deano about snetterton)
very scary moment!!

Yes I did ...practised getting in and out too...And had a good look inside to see how I can keep the roll cage without the need to climb in thru the roof...

.then on Sunday you came along and just dropped in!

Tried your pedals ..found them ok ...plus sat there for a few minutes each day to see how I could make my interior fit...i will need to create a recess in the drivers door....in a tasteful way...but will get there...just want to do it justice..

Hi Rich,

Was good to have a chat with you last night mate, lots of interesting relevant information there mate appreciated, as discussed things might be easier with a pedal box out of a griff/chimaera...pedals can be adjusted, and we thought that this might makes the "reach" easier

Now another question is if I do decide to go for the griff/ chimaera route has anybody done it?

If so what happens with the reservoirs?
Do they fit o.k. with the Tuscan bulkhead?

I can obtain a full pedal box with reservoirs for under £70...so might be the way to go....

(plus I have problems using a floor mounted boxs getting a full "stretch" as I need operations on both feet following injuries!, but will put up with the pain if need be)

Hi Craig,

Think we met at TVR Power a while back, either way heard loads excellent things about your piloting skillsclap, really appreciate the offer here, but most likely going to be off radar.

....but have driven Dom's sag before without any issues plus lots of other "T" cars with this format of pedals...budget is key here, have a mountain to climb...

Aim is to get the car to a point where it is taxable..but it will not be a snottersmile

Once she is up and running I will re-visit areas and keep improving the car to make it half decent...

Steve,
Assuming the pedal box on a Griffith is the same as the one on a Chimaera, one thing you could do is compare the angle of the bulkhead on your Chimp with your Tuscan.

Then we can assume that the Griffith pedal box you're looking to buy will fit the same as a standard Tuscan racecar pedal box.

Obviously a Challenge car doesn't have any servos, so the master cylinders bolt onto the engine side of the bulkhead and the remote resevoirs bolt just below the windscreen scuttle.

Finally, you'll need to add some bracing to the roll cage, so in the event of an accident, you don't get up close and personal with the pedal box.

Let us know how you get on.

Hi,

That will be my son Danny who you will have heard of, re the piloting, the pedal box is not the std Sag one but one that has adjustable brake bias as fitted to a challenge car and its very cheap ?

Hi Rich,

thank you very much for taking the time and effort posting this up...looks like I could go this waay....idealy (and I know it goes against the racing ethos) I'd like to have a servo on the brakes...and this comes with the pedal box I am considering...need to have a think scratchchin

Cheers Perry,

Was good to talk to you yesterday...looks like I have the exhaust manifolds sorted now then.....gonna collect the engine next Saturday..I will need a collector and exhaust....might go to Custom Chrome here in Nuneaton to see what they can come up with...they did the one on my fixed head wedge....and it won the Loudest wedge competition this year!
