Anybody else really excited about this? One of the very few new race series I actually totally approve of. With racing being such a progressive sport, taking electric racing into city centres is a really bold and exciting move.

I can see series like this playing a huge part in the future of motorsport. It really opens up the possibility of staging races at places and times that would never have previously been possible, bringing the competition to the public rather than relying on them traveling to remote circuits.
I'd never want it to replace the sounds that you get from petrol engined cars (the diesels at le mans are bad enough!) but as another facet to motorsport I think its great.

Having seen Drayson's Lola in action at Goodwood, these cars will monster street tracks. I reckon they'll pick up speed better than just about anything else so short straights and slow corners will play to their strengths. Lots of braking zones should give the chance for regenerative braking. I'm genuinely excited and fascinated to see how the market reacts to this - and the general public as well. One of the targets is to attract the so-called 'Generation Y' - to get young people off their PlayStations and out watching real racing. I'm extremely suspicious of any racing fan who isn't a socially inept geek so there is definitely work to be done there...

Silently lapping Combe at 100mph+ would be quite a sight! I think the noise factor will be an issue - especially as part of the joy of street tracks is the sound reverberating off all the buildings. But watching the diesel LM prototypes at close quarters, there's something otherworldly about their furious, silent progress. Almost makes it more dramatic as there is so little apparent effort in their prodigious speed. I can't wait to find out. Now to get badgering Race Tech that they need a Roman correspondent for the weekend...
