I suppose he would have said something else if Schummie had done well.

Pah! I was saying this before the 2010 season kicked off.
Is BE trying to claim somesort of devinity in his statement? Stating the obvious is the open self-righteousness of the self-obsessed and mentally feeble. He really is a senile t0sser. Someone put him out of the fans' missery, inhumanely.

'F1 supremo Bernie Ecclestone has welcomed Schumacher's return and believes he can even win the title at the age of 41.
"Forget about winning races - I have him on my bill for winning the championship," Ecclestone told F1's official website.
"It's fantastic for Formula 1 that he turned into a 'comeback kid' but at the same time it's good for Michael."'

<see what i did there>

Schumacher doesn't appear to really care what people think on this. He wanted to come back and to have the challenge, it didn't work out so now it's time to move on.
He's a 7 time world champion. He holds near enough all the important records at the moment and some of his drives in the past were utterly amazing. I don't really see how his come back really devalues his achievements.
Oddly, I disliked him during his first career but I've warmed to him this time around

Watching him race with Kimi in the last race was fantastic.
Monaco Pole and the podium earlier on in the year proved he could still mix it with the best of them.
Shame the Mercedes has not carried on the success from Brawn GP.

His results may not have been what he wanted, but neither was the car. On occasion we saw flashes of the old brilliance. Good or bad he provided entertainment.

There's only one opinion that matters on the subject and that's Schumacher's. he came back to F1 because its the sport he loves, it was hardly because he needed the money, if he's enjoyed his racing then it's a successful comeback IMO.
This. He had an opportunity to have a second bite at the cherry, a chance to return to doing something he loves. He'd have been a fool to pass it up, regardless of the results.Mermaid said:

Well he said - I suppose he would have said something else if Schummie had done well.
Despite Schumacher's disappointing comeback, Ecclestone said his departure will be a loss to the sport.
"He enjoyed racing and was there helping to do good things for Formula 1," said Ecclestone when speaking to the sport's official website Formula1.com.
"We will miss Michael, because even though he wasn't winning races in those three years, he is still very popular."
Looks good to me!
To be honest I always thought Schumacher's real mistake was retiring the first time; the fact he came back shows he wasn't really ready to leave the sport so I'm not sure why he retired at the end of 2006. Raikkonen won the title in a Ferrari the following year and personally I think Schumacher would have had the better of him if he'd kept racing; he knew the car and the team inside out and I think that would have tipped things in his favour in 2007. I do think he's right to go this time though; in his prime he made the difference when the car wasn't quite right but he didn't seem to be able to do that with Mercedes....

In a car with a braking issue that LH hasn't been able to get on top of yet, where his driving style and speed is all about braking... perhaps. Still early days yet.

Schumacher and Rosberg were about as quick as each other last year.
Wasn't NR >0.1s faster on average, after the car was redesigned to suit MS's driving style, and NR had much better race results and most of all, didn't make a d!ck of himself with his on-track antics?CampDavid said:
