NASCAR Las Vegas Please help!

I'm trying to choose 2 seats for the Sprint Cup in March but having never been to a NASCAR race let alone the Las Vegas Speedway I was hoping some of you could help me choose. There are already very few seats available but from what I can see, I can sit at one end of the circuit high enough to see everything or lower down and nearer the start/finish.

I would go closer to the Start/Finish line. You get a better view of the Pit Lane action (and all the pre-race stuff) and you can rent a TV monitor and radio scanner (all-in-one) fairly cheaply to keep you up to date with the action.

I went to this years’ Dallas and Phoenix races – they were fantastic – you’ll love it.

Top Tip: Listen to the Danica Patrick radio feed - they talk to her almost constantly and the chatter is really interesting.

...and in contrast, I would go higher - get as much elevation as you can and see as much of the track as possible. Low (close to the wall) is loud and novel for a few laps, but all you get to see is windshields and roofs flashing past every 40 seconds and no extended view of the field, which you need to keep track of what's going on.
Totally concur with the scanner though - brings a whole different dimension.

Both excellent points and that's my dilemma. Looking at the limited seating options available at the moment I'm erring towards lower but closer to the pits as I'm not sure I'd see much of that in the cheaper seats.

My NASCAR experience is limited to multiple visits to Cup races at Daytona, Talladega and Bristol. Never been to the Vegas speedway. Higher is always better (and not always cheaper) at super-speedways. Closer to the track works well at Bristol, but that's a shorter track with less infield obstruction.
Take the point about pit-action, but the routine in the pits is just that, pretty much the same dance over and over. Seeing the race unfold, with a broader view of the whole course is more rewarding, in my view, particularly if you have two distinct packs.

Thanks for that Matt. I found a youtube video of the approximate location of where the majority of seats are available and as you can see, the cars are obscured from view when they pass by which leads me to think you're right about height! There are seats free near the top of the stand this video was shot from so I think that might be my best option.

Also, I normally indulge in a spot of photography when I'm at the racetrack. How practical is it to try to take photos with a large camera? should I just bring a compact?

Richard Petty Terrace, shoot for somewhere in the middle. Conversely, if you'd like similar views but the cars coming towards you, and the pit entry rather than exit, shoot for the other terrace (earnhardt IIRC).

There really arent many seats left and all the best ones, the centre for example are sold. We have gone for 2 seats near the very top of the stand on the exit of the final turn. Hopefully we'll get a decent view from there. I'm so excited that I'm finally going!

Haven't been anywhere near that stand, but it's certainly high enough - imagine the view will be pretty good. If not, the noise is usually enough to make your eyes rattle around anyway

LVMS is a great place, sure you'll enjoy it
