Nortberg Haug to leave Mercedes

Autosport and BBC reporting he's leaving at the end of 2012.

60 seems a little early to retire. I wonder if he has had the bullet for the F1 team failing to deliver.

Did not see that coming. Missed out on DTM title, 1 win in F1.

60 might seem like early to retire, but in reality we'd all love to be able to. I guess in motorsport, most people do it for the love of it and getting paid is a bonus. So I expect him to pop up somewhere else fairly soon. Porsche's LMP1 programme perhaps?

That is exactly how I thought of him. I smell trouble ahead if the revised outfit does not perform well next year.

I do not think that having Lauda in the background is going to help the team much. He is a perfectionist at ensuring that the S41t goes anywhere except towards himself.

I wouldn't be surprised if he was retiring, he's been working pretty hard and remember he was rather ill some time ago when he lost stacks of weight.

Depends really. You look at Sir Frank Williams who could well have done with retiring a while back for health reasons, but he loves F1 too much for that. Maybe Haug isn't that bothered, but I don't think he would have left on his own, and certainly not in the off season, unless someone asked him to.

I'd bet that Lauda is certainly part of the reason for Haug leaving.

I think he will be missed, he seems to being a bit of personality to the face less corporation that is Mercedes. Seems like a nice future job for Schumacher though....

Haug left because he wanted Vettel who is better than Hamilton. Schumacher was one of the greatest drivers ever and something something Ayrton Senna.
