Regardless of the validity (or otherwise) of the times, the F1 SIARPC is basically my favourite thing on TV.
Such a treat to see F1 drivers in a road car so awful and slow that you really get to see how good they are. Especially how much speed they carry to the apex: it's incredible to watch.

I think it proved that Lewis is quicker than Vettel was on a different day. But I'm quicker than Lewis when I'm in a car doing 70mph and Lewis isn't moving at all, so it doesn't 'prove' much.

I couldn't believe how relaxed he was - but by the end I was surprised he hadn't put a CD in. He's an incredibly talented guy, and probably the fastest of his generation. But being over a second faster, is a large margin - discrepancies aside, it's ridiculously fast. And that nicely supports my own viewpoint; that Lewis is faster than Vettel... a lap of the TG track doesn't prove much - it's true - but it's a small nod at how things might lay. That and all the times Lewis raced in Vettel in lower formulae, do kind of add up to something, sorta', maybe...It would have been more representative if the car broke down.

Watching the lap I found myself wondering how far they go in terms of preparing the car for such a serious competition. Is the engine in fine fettle? Suspension? Chassis? Is everything equal?
Obviously there are limits on budget and how far things can be taken with such a car. But still!

Lewis' lap looked superb, but it'll only be over when Sebastien Loeb shows them all how it's done.
Jari Matti Latvala is generally accepted as the quickest current rallyist,just a shame hevisits the scenery too much ,so i will nominate him for a go in the reasonably rubbish car.

Whilst the sarcasm is hilarious - the whole point is that it's great to see drivers in equal machinery... even if it's the reasonably priced car.. or even Lewis / Vettel in their early days, as seen here:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kDkK8a4jHZ8
Well this will no doubt run and run but it was certainly a brilliant lap by Lewis H. Having watched him in GP2, where raw pace shows itself better than the complexity of F1, I have no doubt that he is an astonishingly quick driver.
However, he's not without his weaknesses. I hope he's got beyond them (or got them a little more under control)

There is no way on god's earth that our Louis is 1.1s faster than Sebby in a road car. At the level F1 and pro drivers work at I'd be amazed, if all things being equal, there is more than a couple of tenths between them in a road car.
It was a different (warm) day so I suspect that's where most of the time came from. Do you really think that even Louise thniks he is 1.1s per lap faster than Sebbie? Not a chance.
