According to our local newspaper Susie Wolff is the subject of a film to be shown on BBC2 Scotland in the spring called "The Fastest Woman in the World". Apparantly it's all about the life and career of the only woman in F1.

The film has been made by her BAFTA nominated brother David Stoddart who is a director.

Tidy.

It helps that her husband has a massive influence on the team. Not done under her own steam I'd say.

And she's a bit slower than the various female drag racers. But I guess "Fastest female F1 driver from a field of 1 at the moment", isn't a great title.

I guess that title and sub-text was approved after Maria De Villota's accident.

At least 56 women would probably have cause to dispute such a program title.

I know, what's that all about? After seeing what happened to Maria de Villotta, she's allowed to do straightline tests on an old airfield, but not drive in a closed cockpit car at Le Mans which has higher safety standards than driving on RAF Middlewomble?

Used to think she was a decent driver back in Formula Renault, especially when you consider where her peers have ended up. But she made the worst move possible by going to the DTM. It's just a graveyard for young drivers. Di Resta's the exception. Now she's just a novelty act to be honest. Which is a shame, as she's a nice person.

She was never any good in karts or FR, considering the resources thrown at her. God knows how she got into DTM but it wasn't on talent and we all know how she got the 'seat' at Williams. Novelty act is right, it's all she is.

What a waste of money to produce a programme about her. Will this family stop at nothing?

Never said she was good, just decent. My definition of "decent" is somebody who's able to get into the lower reaches of the top ten. Certainly not a tailender anyway. When you consider she was up against guys like Lewis Hamilton, James Rossiter, Steven Kane, Alex Lloyd, Rob Bell, Jamie Green, Danny Watts etc.

But it sounds like you obviously know a lot more than I do about her behind the scenes stuff. smile

Susie Stoddart/Wolff my pet hate.

One of the least talented/deserving people to have a drive in a top formula.
Take a look at her DTM results - she has only scored 4 points in 6 years of DTM and only on those 2 occasions she only broke into the top ten, by default, rather than skill. In those races everyone else fell off in front of her.

But I will give her some credit - she did OK in 2004 in Formula Renault (her third season).

Hats off to her PR and management team - but her status as a DTM and F1 test driver (excuse me one moment whilst I chuckle) is nothing to do with her skills as a driver.

Note to self - I must let this go wink

Nice lady.

Handy behind the wheel but certainly was/is never going to set the World alight and would never have set foot in an F1 car without being close to someone who carries a lot of clout in a team.

I can understand Tito's worries about Le Mans, it really is a race like no other and given that she is likely to be in a GT car I suspect that hubby, who has an idea of how 'good' she is or isn't, bricked himself of the thought of her doing a night stint in a Porsche with a battling pair of Toyota and Audi baring down on her and a closing speed of 40MPH+

Indeed. That was and is such a shame.

Edit to add - Danica Patrick has got pole at the Daytona 500.

It's like going back to the 1800s. Before I even contemplate her ability I have to stop my (female) piss boiling!

Leaving aside the question of whether she really is the world's fastest woman, or whether she's frankly a bit crap, I'm pleased to see that the licence-payers money is being invested so wisely in such superior programming...

The irony of what you've just posted is that the BBC in Scotland have always absolutely refused to televise Scottish motor racing from Knockhill!!

On the contrary she's probably paying the BBC to allow her to perform. That shouldn't surprise anyone. wink
