Well I've some how convinced the wife that a trip to Speed Week would be a good idea for a holiday and she's bought it!!! So, now I've got flights to Vegas sorted I need some advice on what I should arrange for Bonneville. Casino hotel rooms are available and for 4 nights are about $800 + taxes. An alternative is to get an RV in Salt Lake and stay at the bend in the road. I really need to find out what the area is like, I've seen pictures but worry we could get stuck. Also, is it so rammed that you can't get a spot near the road? It could be a wonderful experience but it could also be a veritable nightmare.

Anyone who has been there and done this please let me know. If I was on my own I'd do this no question, but with wife and son this is a bit more of a concern.

There isn't much out there to do to be honest...it is in the middle of nowhere. Realistically a day is enough to see what's going on and to get a feeling for what it is all about, anything longer than hat and you will be bored silly. Great for people watching but somewhat 'redneck'.

I've been to Wendover so know it's pretty much out in the sticks. I'd be looking at staying at the bend for 4 nights and if we get bored (or it rains) we could always shoot off somewhere else. I thought there would have been quite a few people who might be regulars going over.

This is well worth a visit whilst there. Especially the museum.

We could certainly check this out on the way back to Salt Lake. Just having worries about hook-ups now though. Nothing on the salt, KOA is booked and may have to try the Nugget. Need to top up the water at least so got to find something.........unless I ditch the idea of an RV and break my lads heart????

Best advice you will ever get for the salt flats, I was so grateful for it after my friend ignored it and I witnessed her terrible discomfort.................. Wear sunblock, everywhere, incuding all the way up the inside of your shorts!
That there sun bounces off the salt and up your legs, right up to the crotch, a very tender area to get sunburnt !!!!! Aaaaaaaaarrrrrgggghhh
