Just been reading unconfirmed stories that the Lotus Tech Director is set to leave.
Everyone has a different angle on where he'll be going. Most reports speculate it'll be Ferrari, Joe Saward suggests he'll be heading to Mercedes. But can Merc really be in need of another technical director?

If he is off to Ferrari (and I wouldn't be surprised after they rated themselves 6/10 this year so far) who does he replace ? or are they adding rather than replacing ?
Reading on James Allens website (jamesallenonf1) some quite interesting things, one idea is he may be going to Redbull to eventuly replace Adrian Newey whenever he has had enough, and Kimi to follow...
These two comments I found quite interesting.

Red Bull does make sense, especially when you think back to the look of utter exasperation on Newey's face when Vettel stuck his middle finger up to the team a few weeks ago.
Newey has stayed in F1 far longer than he expected to. There was much talk of him leaving McLaren and wandering off to design Americas Cup yachts, before The Red Bull chequebook was dangled under his nose with blank spaces in all the right places.
I'd be far from surprised if he hasn't made his intentions to quit at the end of the year known to the Red Bull hierarchy, and they have in turn scrambled to secure the next best thing.

Bumped with a story I just read that he is going to Honda.
Apparently he'll be designing a test car for Honda. That will free them from the constrictions of F1 testing until they officially enter F1 in 2015.
I'm assuming that means that he will be officially joining McLaren in 2015, which can only be good news.
If that's all true, it must be good news for McLaren Honda.

As I understand it there is nothing to stop anyone starting "PH F1" and building their own car(s) to F1 regs. which they can then test to their little hearts burst.
If they then wated to race these cars in F1 then they would have an issue.
The use of the engine is not a problem so far as I am aware. For a start the design hasn't had to be passed by the FIA as yet.
As it is I suspect that a French tyre company are up to their necks in this.

I have heard that teams are running engines in LMP2 chassis' for development which is within the rules, and don't Toyota have an 'F1' engine that is been developed currently!?!
I think McLaren are saying that those aren't the correct facts. "This is untrue." is the quote I found. I don't think there's anything to prevent Honda building and running a car prior to their return to F1. It is entirely possible that the 2015 McLaren/Honda would look quite a bit like the 2014 Honda test car.
