Another Race Track at risk due to noise
Discussion
Good Evening PH
Killarney Race Track in Cape Town South Africa is at risk due to noise issues. The track has been used for motor racing since the 1950's and currently hosts Circuit racing, Karts, Short Course Racing, Drag Racing, etc. It is also home to a driving school and a number of motorsport workshops. The worst of all of this is that the next nearest track is an 8 hour drive away.

Kill the night time drag races, it's silly to have that racket going on in a residential area.
If that means the "yoof" end up racing on the streets, then so be it, if it means the complaints about the circuit drop below a level that threatens the venue.
I've been to Kilarney, hope it doesn't get closed, but i'm not surprised there is pressure with that racket going on during the evening!

Regarding the 'racket', depending on how quick the drag racing kit on track is, will be a variable as to whether it warrants being stopped. In Europe the push in recent years has been for everything running slower than 8.99 in the 1/4 to run mufflers, due to cars being quicker than that, deemed to be short duration bursts of increased decibels. This was more of a trial than anything, but again it comes down to complaints regarding noise, from residents several miles away, who occasionally complain on the wrong weekend (the tactic of complaining the Monday following an event only really pays off if you have a copy of that season's event calendar If that means the "yoof" end up racing on the streets, then so be it, if it means the complaints about the circuit drop below a level that threatens the venue.
