Just watched the last BTCC Oulton meeting on TV.
The corner I know as Knickerbrook was persistently named "Hislop" by the commentators.
Anyone know why? They were using the Island circuit - does Kb get a different name then?

Got to admit that last Saturday was the first time in 20 years of following motorsport that I had heard the kink before Cascades being called Dentons paperbag

I'd been under the impression that they only referred to that chicane as 'Hislop's' for motorbike racing events.

Hislop's is just the chicane, named after Steve Hislop after he died in a helicopter accident. The official ceremony had Stewart Easton riding the 'white charger' Norton Hislop won the Senior TT on round the circuit., to the ribbon cutting.

Knickerbrook, remains just the right hander.

The chicane was put in too slow the bikes originally through Knickerbrook, and I seem to remember the cars still used the old circuit initially, however now it seems at least the touring cars use it as well, I don't know for other formula.

Was the chicane not put in there following Paul Warwick's accident ?

No. Foulston's is the chicane between Shell & Hill Top, now officially known as Britten's.

Hislop's is more commonly referred to as Hizzy's, & shown as such on the map on Oulton's website.

This is driving me mad now, can anyone help?
After the Warick crash a smaller chicane than is there now was put in and it had a name before it was renamed Hizzys, what was it called?

I think it was (at least initially) just called the Knickerbrook Chicane, but I may be wrong.

Thanks, when I was trawling my memory that kept coming up but I thought it was to obvious.
Thinking back initially only cars used the small chicane and the bikes still used the proper Knicker brook.
As for Dentons kink if you go on the YouTube video of Jim Clark doing a lap of Oulton you can see why it was called 'The Avenue'.

Batesy was a mate of my grandfathers and would often be employed to 'clear' something in the way in a quarry or site, using his army found explosives expertise. My Dad tells stories of Batesy coming around to their home and ar5ing about with expolsives as was his want, often chucking a detonator under Grandads new Jag just to see the look on his face!
He was asked to 'move' a huge tree stump for my Grandad, and with a twinkle in his eye, asked where he'd like it moved to. He ignored Grandads instructions and sent the 1/2 ton tree stump clean across the carriageway and into the opposing field, thought it was hysterical! My Dad kept in touch with him, and met with him a few times in Batesy's later years and reckoned he'd lost none of his fun, although he wasn't allowed to play with explosives anymore luckily or his after dinner speaking would have been even more exciting!

It was just referred to as Knickerbrook when it was done in 1992, then the Hislops part name was added in 2003 or 2004. They realigned the chicane to improve the flow of the entry in 2003.

Looks like a 'dodgy' wikipedia map!

What's with 'City Hall'? The climb after Hislops and Knickerbrook is 'Clay Hill'!

Here's the official circuit map...

I grew up listening to Batesey on dodgy old cassette tapes. He was great.

The right kink on "the Avenue" called Denton's, is named after one of the three founder owners, of the circuit which opened in 1953,..... he was called Paddy Denton. HTH
