Autosport is reporting that the Austrian GP will be back on the calendar next year, set for 6th of July

http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/108917

Not quite sure how that date will fit with the British and German events, but hopefully will mean no 3-week gap next year smile

Now it's the Red Bull ring.

Yeh but fantastic track, I don't care who owns it now, it's another classic back on the calendar

Who gives a to$$. Red Bull have saved a historic track and put it back on the map. Good on them. cool

At least they are doing something constructive with all the cash they are making. wink

I quite like this track so im glad its back in, but is it just me that thinks there are almost too many races now? Would rather have quality than quantity.

I'm happy with between 16 and 22 races.

But I would settle for 12 great tracks vs 22 Tilke monstrosities. Though Texas looks pretty good, to be fair.

Mega news, I like the character of that circuit!

Will the marshalls all be drinking red bull? Will they assist if need be the same 4 cars out the gravel traps in "dangerous positions" whilst ignoring the rest? Will whoever leading not in any of said 4 cars be black flagged for "fashion infringments" or similar infractions?

Yes I'm being very childish but I think the idea is hilarious that a team owner invites F1 to share it's track in the modern age. I await internet conspiricies post race with interest...

Watch the Japanese GP anytime since Hunt won?

Fuji is owned by Toyota and Suzuka is owned by Honda.

It's not a new thing.

I seem to remember reading that Red Bull were going to be building lots of action/adventure type things on the old bit of circuit that isn't used anymore. It's a shame, because the tarmac is all there still.

The A1GP/Red Bull Ring is but a pale shadow of the fantastic circuit that was butchered to make it.

But, by modern standards, it's OK.

this is fantastic news!! I will be making this my first gp visit without a doubt. I know it's not the 'old' circuit but considering what usually happens when circuits are truncated - I'm looking at you, hockenheim - It's an ace little track, gravel traps, close barriers and very little runoff I'm general, narrow track. It's going to properly sort out who can drive. Especially if it rains like it used to there!

Apart from now turning right at Castrol, it's not vastly different is it? Sure it's not as fast and dangerous, but wouldn't the current layout be better for "racing"?

Fantastic news! This was the track I nominated on the old "which tracks would you like to see back on the calendar" thread too smile

Hopefully not at the expense of the German or Belgian Grand Prix though scratchchin

Just e-mailed an Austrian pal to see if he's got a spare room for the weekend.
