24 hour amateur events.
Discussion
I fancy taking part in a 24 hour event. Karting was my main though, but having glimpsed the highlights of 24 hour 2CV racing once before on TV, that somewhat tickled me.
When and where do these events happen?
I've seen Buckmore Park have a 24 hour event this October, but currently sold out.
Daytona Motorsport seemed to have had an event last October, but I can't find what venue they ran it at or any news of a 2013 event.
Teeside karting have one late August, but I think that will be sold out by now, although I've not checked.
Any I have missed?
I have a deadline of October next year although exact date is not yet set, so I can't rule out an October event totally, but unless I can get on it this year, it might not be a goer next.
I'd rather an August event as it stands slightly more chance of being dry for most of the race at least.

I plan to have to get a team together and I don't expect to be anywhere near the front that's for sure! The enjoyment aspect is what I was after.
UK based preferable to avoid costs. I already go to Le Mans once a year, so know the are and the karting track. It's currently being worked upon. The surround area at least, not sure about modifying the course. Being brung up to FIA spec or something, who knows.

Next year will be on the new circuit. I loved the old circuit, but the place was pretty tired!
Teesside run the best 24hr races. I've done loads and have never had an issue. I have also done other races run by other firms that have been run very poorly. You have been warned!

Does it book out quick, I'd be interested in doing next years. I'm very much a rank amature. Would I be the only team entered like that!?

Tesside (specifically, Bob and Kat Pope) do run a few 24 hours races at different tracks though their EPEC championships, with rental karts and owner driver (for example, they did a 24h race at le mans for EPEC a few weeks ago). When and where do these events happen?

Be aware that unless you're in a professional team, you don't stand a chance. These guys have big budgets and spend them on stuff to go quicker.
There is talk of tesside getting in on the Isle of Man 24h race in 2014, but we'll see how that goes!

Also, these guys organise the 24h charity karting race that the F1 teams tend to go to http://www.deepingroundtable.co.uk (the round table is somwhat like the rotary society). http://www.deepingroundtable.co.uk/Kartathon_2012.... (ignore the 2012 in that URL, they updated the page for 2013).
Some other circuits run 24h races on a one-off basis, eg. Buckmore and PFI.

It does book up quickly in the rental class and the standards vary considerably. I have seen a team told to leave because they were dangerously slow - quite why you'd enter the British 24hr if you were that crap I have no idea! You'll be fine though. It is taken seriously and the works teams take no prisoners. You'll all quickly work out how to act around lots of other karts.
Craig - PF don't do 24hr races - they struggle with noise running two strokes for a few hours, let alone a 24hr race.
It would be a rental kart team that I would be looking to enter in. I understand that there would be serious teams entering. I spent today doing a team event at Thruxton. I've been a few times for team and individual endurance. That is my only outdoor karting experience. I don't race cars in my spare time, just like a nice fast drive. So I'm no way a pro. But I don't bring up the rear, so I'm not a total tool like the people you see enjoying themselves, but durdling around.
The people turning up with their own helmets today were obviously there to win. I fancied doing 30 minute stints (2 hour race, 4 people), but my teammates could only handle 15 minute stints! Said that their hands hurt! Maybe the steering wheel is similar in size and girth to my Caterham wheel, but I was fine, always wanting more after every event I attend, so this isn't a new thought.

Daytona do their 24hr race at Milton Keynes. Due to popular demand they moved the 2013 race to May for more warmth and daylight. In the past they have run the race without a minimum weight limit which has discouraged some heavier drivers. Rumours suggest that the next event will be run with a minimum driver weight limit of 82.5kg (it'll be interesting to see if this can be effectively enforced but it should lead to closer racing, last year two fairly light teams ran away with it, although a fairly heavy group came third) - there was some talk of the next race being in October if there was sufficient interest but I haven't heard anything else so I suspect it'll be 2014.Gingerbread Man said:

With the greatest of respect, I'd recommend doing a shorter enduro (usual for epec is 6h) first, to get a feel for where you are. What weight/height are you, by the way? EPEC's a weigh-limit formula (every kart is weighed at every stop). The vast majority of people need lead. Everyone else (me included) is slower.

I'm 5'10" and ~11 pebbles.

The other two are the 24h events.
11 stone is fine, that's 70kg. 5'10" will not help on fast tracks (you're too tall) but that's not too bad either.
Compare with me: 14 stone, 6'2". I usually run 8 or 9kg overweight.

ETA: you can of course buy a drive in a proper team. These guys aren't right on the pace, but they are near the front most of the time: http://www.brmstretton.co.uk/site_pages/teamstrett...
