Button to Ferrari for 2014?

Just postulating, but:
Massa is almost a cert to not be retained for 2014.
Button's Contract is up at the end of this season and has NOT yet signed an extension.
{Almost)Every F1 driver always, at some point, wants to drive for Ferrari.
Button has been saying a lot of nice things about Ferrari recently.
If rumours are to be believed, Telmex will be taking over as title sponsors of McLaren next year so may want someone slightly more in line with their area of interest.
McLaren has a contract for next year for Perez and I'm sure the teams potential Sponsors will want him to stay.
Button probably realises that any 2-3 year contract he signs for 2014/15 is possibly the last one he will sign.

No to Telmex and I think Honda have more say than McLaren's next major sponsor which some think is going to be Glaxo Smith Kline....regarding a driver. Ferrari won't pay what McLaren will and Jenson won't go to Ferrari now or in 2015. His contract discussions are over 2015 and 2016 not 2014.
Can't see him going anywhere else to be honest, this year hasn't been great but Mclaren will always bounce back, I'm expecting another quiet year for them next year while more focus goes I to 2015 and a very competitive car for then with the Honda engine to be honest.

Mclaren have options for Button and Perez for 2014 and am sure they will take them up.
It would be nice to see Alonso in a Red Bull and Button and Kimi in the Ferrari.
2014 will be interesting as it is rumoured that the Mercedes engine will have 30-50 BHP more than the other engines and if thats the case however good Adrien Newey is the Red Balls will be nowhere.
Or perhaps the Renallt will be the best engine and Red Bull will walk away with the title or even Ferrari may have the best engine.
Teams will be sand bagging in Testing so we will not know the true picture until qualifying at the first race.

McLaren do have an option on Button, but does it have performance clauses? Can McLaren only exercise that option if, for example, the car is withing 0.5sec in dry qualifying, or the team has at least 60% (or something) of the WCC leaders points?I there is a performance clause and the team have not met the criteria, then negotiations will have to take place. I expect this is where they are right now. Button may be making some demands to be kept on and McLaren are holding out.

I bet in November 2009 Mclaren never dreamed they would get battered by RedBull for 3 seasons straight & I'd wager they never saw RedBull doing the double in 2010 either or that the team would throw hundreds of points away in 2012 through really stupid & preventable mistakes or have a disaster of 2013. I'm pretty sure there will be performance clauses in JB's side of the contract, but at this time, what more could they ask from him? He has significantly our performed his team mating in qualifying and during the the races. I dont think it will be a case of Mclaren or Jenson trying to screw each other as the 2014 option is for £12 Million so thats what Mclaren will have to pay him.
Button suits Mclarens image perfectly and will willingly do pleanty of PR work and if he went to another team the only other number 1 driver would be Kimi and he wont do the PR.

I first postulated this recently when Button made it known that he hadn't a drive secured for 2014, but as time has passed, so it seems that the only top seat likely to be free would seem to be be Massa's. It is entirely possible that Ferrari may choose to retain Felipe, given the choices, but I think he will be driving Brazilian Touring cars next year with Hulkenburg in that seat.

It is possible that McLaren don't want to take up the option on Button's contract as they don't want to pay the contracted salary. Instead they may be waiting for the option to expire so they can offer him a new contract at a lower salary.McLaren had an option on Raikkonen for 2007 that they allowed to expire as Raikkonen's contracted salary increased each year and 2007 would have cost them $50m. They didn't want to pay this so allowed the option to expire in the hope that they could retain him on a lower salary (knowing that they also had a back up option of giving Hamilton a race seat).

When Webber announced he was leaving F1 for the WEC, drivers where asked at a press conference what they see themselves doing after F1. Massa said Sports cars wouldn’t interest him with the field having huge difference in performance, something like DTM would be more ideal he said.He will either end up with a Ferrari engined F1 car OR Le Mans (following on from Ferrari's desire to re-enter Le Mans).
