Hey Guys,

I have seen some previous threads on here regarding this rally, from other events over the years.

We have just booked to visit this year, we shall be on Mull from Friday to Sunday.

Quite excited, especially as there are so many night stages too.

Let us know if any of you will also be up there, we can share a wee dram one night!!

Cheers,

Nige.

Yep,we notice that Audi S2 is the course car, what a sound that car makes, great choice for the course car!

The entry list has some fantastic cars on it too, it's going to be like the good old days when we went to Kielder Forest for the Lombard RAC Rally back in the 80's.!

Thanks for doing that, would be good to connect with someone in the know prior to our visit.

It looks like there are a lot of closed roads during the event, so would be good to know where is best to head to for viewing and avoiding the closures!

Thanks again! smile

Thanks, I take it you have been before then!

Any tips on good places to pitch up for a good view then?

Thanks in advance!

I've bought my whisky for my annual pilgrimage/binge.

Plenty cracking places to watch. Fri night probably around Dervaig. Hairpins just on the edge of the village are good viewing. Last stage Friday night is Calgary so either the beach or the steps (shove calgary steps rally into youtube for past footage).

Saturday pm then jumps at the end of Gribun then anywhere else you can get to.

Saturday night- Dervaig. The atmosphere will be worth it alone.

Sounds daft but as I have been marshalling when I have been, I had never really 'spectated'.

Drive the stages in the day and work out a good place to watch from. That's what I do.

Thanks we are staying at the Isle of Mull hotel and Spa.

All I know is that it is close to the ferry from Oban.

So recomended trips to stages north or south of the hotel a would be most welcome.

Hi,

I will be competing as usual, navigating for Doug Weir in the Mk2 Escort. We will be seeded somewhere in the high-teens or low 20’s. Come and say hello if you can.

As for spectating, this year’s route is very spectator-friendly. My advice would be to go where you can see the cars most often, and avoid rushing between road closures.

The route is here:

http://mullrally.com/wp-content/uploads/Tunnocks-M...

Friday night: Go to Dervaig and park as far away and off the stages as you can. For SS1 & SS2 stand in the Churchyard at the T junction, you will see both SS1 and SS2 as they both pass that junction. SS1 goes Right, SS2 goes left. SS1 starts at 19h40 but get in at least an hour before that. The last car should pass SS2 about 22h30. Then go to the Bellachroy Hotel for a pint, and the Rally Café for a bacon roll, then walk about a mile along the Calrgary road to the end of SS7. Be there by 00h30 and stand well back because it’s really fast there.

Saturday afternoon: Go somewhere on SS10, 11 or 12 and you will see the cars come back again for the second loop. My choices would be either the fast finish of SS 12 and 15 at Killechronan (long walk and get there early as it gets busy) or there’s a sneaky way into the Mishnish Lochs (SS10 and SS13) stage where you can come and go as you please (PM for details if you are serious). Another choice where the atmosphere will be good is at Dervaig Old Graveyard (note- this is different to the Churchyard) where you will see the cars come down the end of SS10 and 13. Sure to be a good crowd there. Park on the yellow road that goes SE out of Dervaig.

Saturday night: Again, you can see the cars twice by staying in Dervaig. At the end of SS16 and SS19, there will be an amazing atmosphere (and lots of drunk folks - including sjabrown!). As an alternative, there’s a big jump not far into SS17 at Knock, that’s usually quite good fun. Or use the previously-mentioned sneaky way into the Mishnish Lochs to see SS16.

Also, the service on Friday and Saturday night is in the Ferry Terminal car park, which is walking distance from the Isle of Mull Hotel.

Remember your choices are:

- Drive into a good spot on the stage, long before the road closures, park well away from the road, wait till the road opens (at least half hour after the last car) then drive out.
- Walk into the start or finish of a stage (sometimes a long walk)
- Use one of the few mid-stage access points to give you more flexibility

Have fun and stay safe!

Editted to add sjabrown as one of the drunk people - wonder if he remebers speaking to me last year ??

Head North! The South is a bit less rewarding for spectating, not so many stages, more walking and its always windier down there!

Duncan,

Thanks for the excellent information, really appreciated!

Looks like we have some good choices and locations thanks to you.

If we see you at one of the service halts we will come and say hi too!

I won't be drunk as I will be driving, but I expect my friends paul and james to be fairly lairy and plastered!

Thanks again,

Nige.

Duncan, I have only vague recollections of the Saturday night but do remember speaking to quite a few folk. I may also have interrupted my namesake on the rally radio too. Will have to find a seat for 2014 to stay sober!

To anyone else thinking of coming be sure to pack clothing for all weather as it can change very quickly.

I'll second the rally cafe in Dervaig. Cheap rolls and chips till the wee hours.

Just sent him an email pointing in this direction. I'm pretty sure he's home at the moment as his car was in the drive biggrin
