Was hoping to see the old girl at the speed record display at goodward this year! No such luck! I remember being a child on a school trip and admiring that thing, awesome!

Just watched it and did remember it from the first time I saw it.

But it was worth watching again even if only for the one line response from Richard to the question

I also watched a little bit of a Youtube video about Thrust SSC and Andy Green said something him being used to going at 600mph+ but for Noble to self learn to drive at that speed was something different.

Watched this too, must have seen it before but memory failed me.

Sterling stuff, loved the profetic joking after the toilet on a trailer speed record time wasting- "what next?" "Oh the sound barrier" :-)

Thrust SSC looks plain evil but there is something about the shape of Trust that just looks right despite its stupidly single minded purpose, the nose in particular is very purposeful.

Will the team do it again with Bloodhound?

I have a very well thumbed copy of his book Thrust, which is a great read.

He has done more for British record breaking than anyone - IMHO. Wheras Malcolm Campbell had his own pockets and a patriotic backdrop. Noble had to galvanise a reluctant British Industry and has done it on 3 seperate occasions.

His projects have yielded the first record over 700, the first supersonic record, the largest increase on the previous record ever. His next is aiming for 1000 mph. Nothing if not ambitious!

I've seen 2 and SSC in Coventry but never even seen pictures of Thrust 1

Thrust 1 was just a test rig and was pretty crude. I think it featured a Rolls Royce Nene on a chassis with a seat out front. It tipped over during a test run on the runway at Greenham Common.
