Van for towing....
Discussion
Hiya - it's probably been covered but how do I find out what van is best for towing my Jaguar race car? The weight of trailer and car will be roughly 2 tonnes. I don't want a van that will die on me at the sight of an incline, something pretty robust and also fairly comfortable. I will be sleeping in the van as well, but it's only my first season so I don't mind a lined van and just taking my camp bed and stove.
Thank you in advance

Obviously depends on your budget, but we used to use a lwb Merc Sprinter to tow a Vento racer on a recovery type trailer, which was mahoosive, so all up weight similar to yours I would guess.
Cant remember the exact model, but it had the four pot turbo diesel motor, and went like a train, easily kept up with motorway traffic. RWD too, which I prefer when towing.

if you don't mind a bit of extra fuel costs...Thank you in advance

I've run sprinters to tow commercially for years, well over 2t often nearer 3.5t, had an LT also, same chassis but vw engine. They are old & rusty now but I really like the old 5 pot 312.
For later vans 311 minimum 313 bit more poke are just 4 pots but cope ok. Or even better the larger engines, pal loves his 316.
Pal of mine tows commecially & prefers his ivecos, I've used some & do prefer some aspects, tho a leggy 90hp one I used was a tad gutless but the more grunty ones cope well.
For your use might be worth you looking at ex mini busses, often less miles & newer for same dosh as a van.
