I'm wanting to take my dad to watch the 6 hours of Silverstone in April. Usually we would either camp overnight or just travel from Doncaster during the morning and just have a long day. This time as his health is not great i want to go night before to make it a more comfortable day watching great racing.

Where would the piston heads community recommend for me to stay?

I imagine that all the local hotels will be booked, if so you might want to look at the DeVere at Staverton Park.

Last year I stayed in Buckingham. Booking.com or similar sites will let you have a play with what you can find near Silverstone. MK may have the cheapest prices perhaps or someone local can advise better thumbup

I got a room in a Travelodge in Northampton for £27, not the height of luxury but warmer & cheaper than camping

Stayed at Milton Keynes last year after flooding at our planned Northants hotel. About 30 mins away, easy access to Silverstone and plenty of choice.

Yup, £30 Premier Inn about 15 miles away. Did the same last year, and boy was that welcome after Saturday's weather!

Plenty of "lodge" type accomodation on the Northant's/Bucks M1 corridor.

Do not under any circumstances stay at the 'Milton Keynes Hotel' at Deanshanger

Thanks for the advice, glad i got my finger out with booking this. I ended up in a travel lodge near Northampton. Found most places were booked already.
