What on earth has possessed the fia and aco to charge for the free steaming that used to be available last year!? I just went to the website to watch some of the spa 6 hours live and found that all I can get free is live timing, whereas last year you could get free live video stream with radio Le Mans commentary

They have shot themselves in the foot. Not the best way to get people interested in endurance racing and opening the sport to the mases.

Bean counting weeping. Reckon some of the posts on this thread will be deleted if the thread in the LeMans section is anything to go by. But agree at least they could have added LeMans in the "premium" offering frown.

Thanks for the link smile sadly I don't have the right combination of freeview box etc to get motors tv frown I don't understand how they can charge for something online that you can get for free now on motors if you do have the right setup

Not extortionate but still a barrier to entry. Now that the championship is gaining traction with 3 top manufacturers it seems a bit silly to alienate a chunk of their viewership in this way. Not adding Le Mans to it also means they probably intend to charge extra for it frown.

They shouldn't really block top level motorsport in this way imho, but unfortunately I think the trend is to go pay per view for most of everything.

They have to charge for it because Motors TV and all the other broadcasters who have bought the rights to transmit it would be a bit miffed if it was available for free online. In the end they have to make the championship desirable to the broadcasters and giving it away for free just undermines that.

The notion that everything needs to be paid for and only fully paid for ecosystems are the way forward in economy may not be true anymore either. Several theories abound.

Going to play GT5 now to drown my WEC sorrows thumbup. Audi irked

Or Jeremy Rifkin the Economist. I don't subscribe to Pirate Bay ideas of freely distributing (non-free) copyrighted content either. But then I don't believe a lot of it is worth what their creators believe it's worth. It's an imperfect world frown
