Just heard commentators mention this again when watching recorded V8 Supercars. Am I silly thinking that's a stupid rule that benefits no one?

Nobody except the people stood in the pits hoping not to be collected by a sideways car....

The WEC and ELMS have it too, if you ever watch a NASCAR race, you'll see how sideways doesn't always end well. hehe

The wheels spinning rule is more to do with the car during the pitstop, if the car is still on its jacks and the wheels rotate that's what they get the penalty for. It's a safety thing for the mechanics working on or near the car.

I dunno....

Seems kinda daft in V8SC for some reason....

The lollipop man isn't allowed to touch the car. You might as well ban those guys and just as easy to police.

But the car controller 'lollipop man' is a key safety observer for everyone on the pit crew team as well as everyone around.
The no wheel spinning rule is a no brainer so the wheel change guys don't get their wrists ripped off.
It's a harsh rule sometimes but it's been there for long enough now.
I don't think anyone has been penalised for spinning wheels exiting the bay.

I am a sometimes V8SC official however smile

No, there's definitely a rule regarding lighting up the rears when leaving the box. It's been the case at Le Mans for a good few years now.

Not in V8 Supercars though.

Rule clarification from Townsville 2012.

Wheels cannot be spinning before they hit the ground.

The thread isn't about Le Mans or sportscar racing.
