Following the "Banger racing" thread in GG

Does anyone know of any organised events like the one on TG, where they drove the coupes round a field? Kind of gentle contact allowed (this may have been for the cameras)

Just thought it would be a good day out for a group of mates?

Autocross. But you'll need an MSA licence, and proper helmet and flameproofs. And a car that'll pass scrutineering.

There's also Autograss, which is not MSA sanctioned but is still pretty well regulated.

As for turn up, go hooning, go home, I'm not aware of anything. I think you're looking at the Stag Do entertainment type market.

A few motorclubs used to run grass slalom autotests years ago (1970's/80's) and I did a few of these back then in my daily - great harmless fun. I even ran a couple of them back then after finding a friendly farmer that would rent out a suitable field for the day cheaply.

Suitable venues though seem to have dried up these days, so such social and cheap motorsport fun is hard to come by these days.

VOur motor club ilkley and district run regular grass autotest together with car trials which are more about control than speed. No licence needed just club membership and certain rules on cars and tyres. Good cheap motorsport for the grass roots.
There's lots of cheap Motorsport available people just don't realise. We run an event at least once a month, autotest, car trial, navigational event etc all for less than a round of drinks.
