Phakisa 6 hour endurance race
Discussion
Our very low budget team is participating the the African Endurance Series in South Africa on the cheap, this little video clip is taken from the 6 hour race we did earlier this year. Thought it might interest some of you.

For all the races we are driving the road legal race car to and from the track, all but one of the 6 races are over 1000km from home.

We have a 3 hour race this weekend, fortunately at our home track in Cape Town so no long drives to get there! Lots of repair work and upgrades done to the car over the last 3 weeks, hope they pay off! Our "movie maker" will be at the track again so hopefully there is some good footage and another clip to post.
Hi TbirdX
The car is a Harper type 5 designed and built by Craig Harper, who runs a small workshop near Cape Town.
It is a space frame chassis with glass fiber bodywork, this car is Craig's development prototype so has been through many upgrades in its roughly 10 years of life so far.
Engine: Toyota 4AGE 20 valve mid and transverse mounted, tuned to around 130kw
Gearbox: Toyota Corolla
Hubs, brakes, etc: from a Toyota corolla
The car weighs around 700kg at the moment, but carbon panels are planned for a future upgrade.
A number of Type 5's have been built, mainly with 4AGE engines but a few with 3S-GTE engines for more power.
A number of Type 6's have or are being built, these have the engine mounted longitudinally and have so far been fitted with Lexus V8's and Nissan 370 V6's, using an Audi A4 gearbox.

Morning All
The 3 hour race on Saturday started great with the car running quickly and consistently. Then 51 laps done, box instruction given, refueling crew all ready and 2nd driver itching to have a go. Only to see the car come to a stop in the pit lane! Loss of coolant during the in lap, overheating and head gasket blown! Pushed the car into the garage for an early beer.
Prep for next one starts today.
